  • Double Tow Behind Momentum

I will be double towing an aluminum utility trailer part of the time while traveling through mostly Utah, Colorado and Arizona. I did not want to do this but find that a trailer becomes necessary in places that don’t have direct trail access for riding a SxS. The SxS will be in the garage as normal when traveling with only the 6 x12 utility trailer 675#) being towed. I am wondering if there are others who have double towed with their momentum and what the experience has been like?

I have not double towed, but check your states regulations where you are registered and plan to tow in. Some states prohibit or require breaks on both towed vehicles from what I remember. I would personally not do it after seeing others with sway problems. Also double check your Momentum frame and make sure you have a proper hitch. If it is similar to the one GD put on my unit it is rated for 300 lbs weight and I think 3K total weight towing. I see your trailer is only 675 lbs so that may not be a problem. Also remember the weight you add behind will impact your truck hitch so be sure it is rated correctly too. Is there any way to fit it in the garage with your SxS?

However having said that I hope things go well for you and hopefully others will give better experience.

      Yoda,
Trailer will not fit in the garage. My hitch was custom built by a welder and the western states I will be towing in do allow it although I will be longer than regulations in some areas.

RVIA puts out a pretty good trailer law chart. Look for "Number in RV Combo" allowances. You have to be careful with different states, not only do you have double (triple) tow laws you have max length laws to watch out for.

Empty trailer under 1000 lbs. Weight sounds do-able, Trailer sway may become an issue with no weight on it. You may want to think about adding a camera so you can watch it.

If you ever decide to back the whole thing up please get someone to take a video.

Remember, legal normally is on interstates. You could be in violation if you leave an interstate for food, fuel, potty, campground. Also you may find yourself being flagged to weight stations. Best suggestion I can give would be sure to use the truck (semi) speed limits so you don't stand out.
