    Hi Tim,
No problem . . . I have similarly replied to a thread, thinking it was current and then realizing it was old.

I think you analysis of your truck’s capabilities is correct. You might be confusing some of the content of the HDPP (Heavy Duty Payload Package) with Max Tow. I think all F150s have two leaf rear springs except HDPP which has three. (I could be wrong on this as my knowledge is circa 2014). The other important difference is that HDPP includes LT (light truck) tires running at higher pressure than the passenger car tires on all other F150s. You can’t change the documented payload numbers for your truck, but if you are looking for a little more towing stability, following Ford’s lead on rear springs and tires that they selected for the more capable HDPP should help.

Rob - here is a picture of the rear springs on my 2022 F150 with max tow. I have no idea if the non max tow has three or not. I don't recall reading anything about the max tow package having different springs. Rear axle is 4150#'s max load, payload is 1796 (Lariat, long box, supercrew).

Attached picture of my 2014 HDPP with the 3rd (almost) full length leaf in the rear spring. I have looked at newer HDPP F150s that also have this additional leaf. All have the short overload leaf below the main leaves. I agree with Alex that I have never read that Max Tow has different rear springs or suspension. I think all that Max Tow gets you the hitch receiver, a 7 pin connection and a trailer brake controller.

I found this post of a spreadsheet comparing the different configurations on the f150gen14 forum. The guy collecting this information was getting these off of both the yellow and gray door jamb stickers. It appears a standard 14Gen (2021 or newer) gets you 3400 lb rear axle max load. The Max Tow adds a 3.55 rear locking differential and upgraded rear axle as well as the upgraded rear bumper and other items mentioned. My rear axle max load is 4150 lbs. and I have the 7050 lb GVWR. It seems that the GVWR is not increased because of the heavier axle, but the rear axle max load is increased substantially.
I have the one listed with 3.5EB, 4x4, 7050 GVWR, 4150 Rear Axle. I also found a chart which compared the different F150 leaf spring configurations. Apparently the standard Gen14 F150 comes with a composite 2 leaf spring configuration and the higher rear axle load configurations come with steel triple leaf springs. Not sure what the two numbers listed are, but are probably the primary and secondary spring constants and the higher secondary spring gets you the HDPP pkg along with the 3.73/heavier axle. I also saw mentioned that they also upgrade the frame on the HDPP but not on the Max Tow, only the rear bumper is beefed up.

          Tim

edit: the one listed is 7150 GVWR and is probably a Supercab, mine is Supercrew and is which adds weight to the truck which reduces GVWR to 7050. I am definitely looking to upgrade the tires to LT for the reasons Cate&Rob mentions.

FWIW (this reference is a 2014 steel body HDPP) . . . GVWR was 8200 lbs with a rear GAWR of 4800 lbs. I recall that the aluminum body (beginning in 2015) reduced truck weight by about 750 lbs and this was divided between a 300 lb increase in payload and 450 lb reduction in GVWR (on HDPP), which allowed Ford to get rid of the 7 lug hubs unique to the earlier HDPP and to go from 80 psi LTE tires to 60 psi LTC tires. Agreed that only the HDPP gets a heavier frame.
