I recently had my dually's tires changed along with front brakes and had new (Ford OEM) shocks installed. The OEM shocks have worked just fine for 5 years. With the new shocks, tires, and alignment (front right was definitely out) I'm hopefully good for another 5 years.

I seem to remember Cate&Rob discussing the topic of shocks in a couple of different threads through the years. I replaced the shocks based on what I interpreted as a good preventive maintenance practice. As I'm sure you're aware Rob knows when it comes to suspension topics.
I hate how my truck rides when on anything other than highway or smooth road. I do air down when going many miles down a gravel road but it’s not fun to explore. The tires are also not even lasting 40k miles. I found a great shop in Moab that did the alignment correctly and since then no outer tire wear so ready for step 2 which is new tires.

the Rancho 9000xl are adjustable so I can adjust for towing and softer ride for daily driving or off pavement. It’s probably too good to be true but I want to see if this works for me. I need to replace my Michelin LTX tire’s when I get to Michigan. Will have new shocks installed before I get tires and make sure alignment is still good. Thinking of going with Michelin AT tires for better wear on gravel.

That explains it! Mine hasn't seen anything but pavement except an occasional gravel RV campsite.

howson Howard, OEM shocks do a decent job and if you are happy with the ride then stick with them. I went with aftermarket shocks due to the increased valving in them. I've ran the Bilstein on 3 of my trucks now and found them to do a very good job of helping smooth out the rough ride in the rear of the truck, while still doing the job towing.

Always looking for the perfect photo shot or best fishing access, these are not on well traveled roads. I tend to bring my tent along to get to these places. Leave my 303 at the campground.
