  • Towing a small trailer behind my Imagine

I did search and did find some "almost" answers but could not find anything specific.

Question. Using a properly installed, frame mounted rear hitch/receiver on my Imagine 2670MK could I safely tow a small trailer carrying an ATV? I know it is legal in my area I am just looking for safety information. Like, is the Imagine frame strong enough to do this.

I am looking at a hitch like this https://www.curtmfg.com/part/13703

    Anyone do this?

Steve - I've seen quite a few people do it with fifth wheels, but only a couple with travel trailers, none of which are from GDRV. And I know that's perfectly legal in several states. I believe the best people to contact regarding this question is Lippert who actually manufactures the frames. I'm almost positive they'll say "no way", but it doesn't hurt to ask. Their customer service line is 574-537-8900.

Have you looked into alternatives such as one of the truck bed mounted ATV racks? I use a specially designed rack on my truck for hauling my boat because I don't want to double-tow with my Reflection travel trailer. Here's a photo of my set up.

I'm searching for answers to a question I have, and ran across this old thread.

I think this what Jim was getting at:

Yes, I can already put 1 ATV on the truck. I need a second ATV for the wife. I know you can get a double ATV platform for the truck bed but that seems like way too much weight that mounts only on the TOP of the box.

        Thanks

So let's take the numbers from your Signature:

          F150 Payload = 2469-1400 lbs (that's a pretty big range)
          2019 imagine 2670mk gvwr = 8495 lbs

          Tongue weight @15% =~1274.25 lbs
          ATV weight = ~700lbs

So one end of the spectrum
          2469-1274.25-700= 494.75 lbs remaining payload
          Other end of the spectrum
          1400-1275 - 700 = OVER by 575 lbs

Now to your actual question.I agree with TucsonJim , you may want to contact Lippert. You'd need to tie it into the frame, and need to support the approx 200-300 lbs tongue weight. And now how will that affect your primary trailers tongue weight? With 300 lbs of additional weight at the end of the unit, it will probably remove 250lbs of tongue weight from the primary trailer.

If you go forward with this, you are going to have many trips to the Cat Scale to figure out your correct loading.

Personally, it's a bit risky for my taste, but not "unsafe" per say. But I'm just some random guy on the internet.
