    Hi Everyone,
I'm new to forms sorry if I'm posting in the wrong spot. New to 5th wheels. I have a question. I am picking up a use 2019 Reflection 303RLS tomorrow the dealer is throwing in an Anderson Hitch to go in my 2017 Ram 2500 with a 6' 4" bed. He said it is more than strong enough for the weight. I would like to get you opinions please. We are leaving out this Saturday. Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Chucko! You posted in the right spot. There are a number of 5vr owners here who (I'm sure) will be along shortly with a response to your question.

The Andersen hitch is definitely strong enough for a 303, the concern comes with clearance to the back of the truck cab with a 6'4" bed, when turning. If you install the adapter that goes on the RV pin in the position recommended by Andersen, this pulls the 5th wheel forward in the bed (closer to the cab). Some have reversed this adapter, but this puts the sides of the pin box very close to the bed rails and tailgate.

Do some careful trial turns, both forward and back, to understand how sharp you can turn without contact and remember that uneven ground can make the situation worse than in a level parking lot. The attached picture was posted by another forum member in an earlier discussion on this topic and is a Solitude with an Andersen hitch and a Ram with 6'4" box (I think) so not directly applicable, but gives you an idea of what to look out for.

I have the Andersen on my 303 and a Ford F-350. That truck has a 6’9” bed, so it is 6” longer than many. For example, I believe that the F-150 has a 6’3” bed. With my converter cup in the forward-facing position, the pin box would have hit the rails on my roll-up cover. When I turned it to face rearward, it clears, but it does bring it closer to the cab.

I have had my wife watch the clearance if it looked like it would be close and so far, no problems. It is light, easy to put in and take out and I hang it on a nail in my garage if it’s not in the truck.

I pull my 303RLS with the Andersen and like it a lot. I have a Ford, which has a slightly longer bed, so I’m not sure how that compares to your Ram exactly being 5” longer. Seems like an insignificant difference, but a few inches can make a world of difference in how a 5th wheel clears things.

I have my pin box adapter with the opening at the rear to keep clearance from the bottom of the pin box to bed rails.

Have towed a Reflection 337RLS about 20K miles with an Anderson Hitch and 2014 Ram dually short bed. Now towing a Solitude 380 FL. No issues with either. The coupler is installed with the ball to the rear to give more clearance for the side bed rails. So far have not touched the cab. Close sometimes on a very uneven surface when turning, but do far have not touched the cab or top of bed rails. Works very well!

I pull my 303 with a short bed Ford using the Adersen hitch and while you need to be aware where the trailer is i have never had a situation where i could not back our trailer into a site. The trailer pulls great with ghius hitch, no chucking and very smooth.

There ARE so many variables aren't there? Truck bed length, the shape of the front cap of the trailer, which bed cover you have installed, which pin-box you have installed and in which mounting holes, and whether you ever have to turn that sharp to back into a site.

Tom, which truck cover do you have?

Thanks everyone! Your replies make me feel better but and glad that Cate & Rob posted the picture. I had not thought about that. The Service Department called late yesterday and said it would take them up to 4 hours to install it because of the plates they are putting in. Looking forward to being a part of this form.

We have the Pace Edwards (by Leer) Full-Metal JackRabbit, and I love it. Looks great and easy to roll up. It rolls into a canister, which has the top of the canister the same height as the bed rails. The canister only hangs down about 9”, so there is still room under it to slide longer items up to the front of the box.

The dealer isn’t seriously saying it takes 4 hours to install an AUH? 15 minutes if you stop for a beer and bathroom break halfway through.

It could take 4 hours if they have to install all of the under bed mounting hardware, plus running the wiring up to the bedside for the 7 pin plug.
