  • Reflection 150 Series (260RD specifically) front height measurements

Talked to a GD customer support rep this morning and he did not have the answers. For a 2020 or 2021 260RD that has been leveled, what is the distance at the front overhang to the ground? And what is the distance from the bottom of the hitch plate t the ground? Also, was the change made to all Reflection 150 series around 2017 to add the 2" square tubing to the frame under the spring attachment points to raise the trailer? Anyone switched to 16" wheels to get more trailer height? Thanks for your help, trying to figure out how this trailer will work with my truck.

The early Reflection 5th wheels (303 and smaller) before the 150 Series, rode on 15” wheels and tires and had a 59” overhang clearance. The larger models on 16” wheels and tires had a 61” overhang clearance. Getting those with the 59” overhang to ride level with the newer higher bed rail trucks was a problem. So, Grand Design added a 2” spacer between the spring hangers and the frame on models with 15” wheels to achieve the 61” overhang clearance. I would expect that a Reflection 150 with the 2” spacer on 15” wheels and tires would have an overhang height of about 61” +/-.

Thanks, that's helpful but I am still trying to figure out how people are towing the Reflection 5th wheel 150 series level, not nose high, with an F350. From what I have been able to gather on various forums (must be accurate if it is on a forum ) the 2019 F350 had a 59.5" bed rail height and the 2020 was 58". For discussion, lets use a 2020 F350 and 2" of truck squat with the light pin weigh of these 5th wheels. So with the 5th wheel level, you now have a 5" gap between bed rail and trailer. Is this enough or do you adjust for nose high trailer to get better truck rail to trailer gap?

My 28bh (not a 150 series) ran a bit noise high on my F350, so to get a bit more clearance I lowered the rear end of the truck by taking out the rear axle spacers and replacing them with F250 spacers. Was pretty straightforward, I found a guide on the Ford trucks forum.

Yes, I think the 2017-2019 Super Duties had 3.5" spacers under the rear springs. Then for 2020 Ford changed these to 2" so the top of the bed sits around 58" +/- based on tires.

When we we getting set up our dealer told us to shoot for the highly accurate clearance dimension of a fist. Not hooked up right now so I can't confirm but I think we have about 6" of clearance.

I can tell you I’ve got seven inches and last weekend when backing onto a really nasty off camber downhill site we should have skipped I had contact with the bed and the trailer. Bad enough to put a small dent in the metal under the plastic cap, so I’d get as much as you can.

Using your fist is not adequate. I wear size XL gloves and my fist measures 4". How about a fist and a half?

Just measured the overhang to the ground on the 2021 295RL yesterday that I just purchased , and its sitting at 61 inches.. My 2017 F250 with 18 inch tires is 60 inches at the tailgate. Not sure what I am going to do, or how the hitch technician at the dealership is going to solve this one

Zing: I have a 2019 295RL also. Looking at a 2018 F250 with 20" tires. What did you figure out on your hitch to truck clearance?

Towing a little bit nose high isn’t going to hurt anything. The trailer suspension still works to apply an even load on each axle.

Agreed that towing a little nose high is not going to create a problem, but this does transfer more load to the rear axle.

If the equalizer is not centered, this indicates that the axle lifting its side of the equalizer higher, is carrying more weight. Taken to the extreme, you could lift the front of the RV high enough that the front axle was carrying no load and its tires came right off the ground. In my original towing configuration the trailer frame was about 2" higher at the front than at the back. I could measure a small but consistent tire tread temperature difference with the rear axle tires running warmer (indicating higher load). Measuring the loaded arch height of the springs also shows more compression (less loaded arch height) on the rear axle as the front of the RV is lifted from level.

I f someone is towing nose high, I would think that rotating the trailer tires in an X pattern (recommended by Lionshead BTW) would be a good idea.
