  • Trailer movement while towing

Just wondering, since we are new to 5th wheel towing, if anyone has information on the trailer feeling like it is shifting in the lane? Last week we were on some state highways in middle Georgia and the trailer seemed to want to track a different path especially when we entered turns. We only noticed it when we were at or close to being at speed on the old roads. My opinion was that the wheels were going into ruts in the roadway that were produced by the logging trucks and heavy tractors. Any guesses are appreciated.

I would have to agree. The trailer tires are set further apart than your tow vehicle tires and as one would want to track in the "ruts" of the road the other would be fighting to stay out of them. The other thing I have noticed in the south the roads have a larger pitch angle side to side than up here in the north. Just driving on the southern roads takes a little bit of input from the tiller to keep it going straight down the road.
