  • 22MLE and new Jeep GC L

Hello, I have my new Jeep Grand Cherokee L coming off the line here in a few weeks and a new 22MLE scheduled for delivery shortly after.

I have been told by Jeep and my RV dealer that with a WDH I should have no issue towing this trailer. Other people have told me I’m too close to max and I should buy a truck or get a smaller trailer.

My jeep is a Summit edition with 5.7L hemi and 7200 max towing capacity. I don’t have the vehicle yet so I can’t see the door sticker but numbers on the internet say my package has only 1200 lb payload. This is the number that worries me. Does anyone have any advice or experience with similar number?

    thanks in advance!

From you numbers it will be tight depending on how much you and the better half weigh. You will need to visit the CAT scale and look at your door sticker to know for sure where you are. My older Imagine 2600RB has the same GVWR and has a tongue weight of 940lbs with full water and loaded for a trip as an example.

As Jim has mentioned you will be very close depending on how you pack. You will definitely need a "GOOD" WDH and first thing to do is go to the CAT scales. Good luck with this set up.

Jahosefay I owned a 2016 GC with a 3.0 diesel. It had an option package which included four corner air ride, which leveled automatically. Nothing would squat that thing. Do you know if you have this feature on yours? If so, you won't have any issues. Also, I believe there will be a slightly different procedure for setting up your WD equipment.

Thanks everyone for the comments. It looks like from other threads the tongue weight seems to run in the 600-650 range ready to camp (no water). The jeep does have the air suspension but not sure how that all works currently. Can you recommend a GOOD WDH to use with this setup? Thanks!

I agree with others that it will be close for your setup.

My CAT scale tongue weight is 700#. That includes one dealer installed battery, propane tanks ~2/3rds full, light weight hitch (a little less than 60# total), and no water in the fresh tank (water is heavy, if needed, try to fill up close to your destination).

Our 22mle weight is 5600# from CAT scale. We are light travelers since the delivered weight was 5248#.

From reading elsewhere on the internet and FB, tongue weight for those with a 22mle can range from 700-850#, depending how they pack, which hitch they’re using, do they carry fresh water, etc. etc. One suggestion is to utilize the under-bed storage for heavy items rather then the pass-thru.

There are several good WDHs on the market; Equalizer 4-point, Blue OX, Husky center point, Reese dual-cam, Andersen, ProPride/Hensley, etc. Each have their pros/cons when it comes to price, weight, ease of hook up, etc., etc.

Last trip out with 5 gals.of onboard water to flush with on the ride, my measured tongue weight was 775#. This was with my Sherline scale.
