JH2112 Jeff, Remember these general rules:
1 - if uncomfortable around something, mitigate it so it will not hurt you. I.E. kill all power when testing circuits for things like shorts, even 12V. It takes mA not mV to kill.
2 - ask for help. It's better to ask for help than to damage something. It's OK to try yourself and ask for verification. That is how we learn.
3 - when all else fails, step back, take a deep breath, and walk away before you start throwing things. Sometimes taking a breather will allow your mind to "loose focus", which in turn allows us to see the real problem or solution. Even taking a breather when something is not fitting or working like it should give the body time to reset.
Never forget we are all here learning. No one knows everything. When you stop learning it's a bad thing.

If you are uneasy working around 120v stuff, check out something like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which will allow you to test the circuit for both volts and amps and keep the wiring shielded.

I just picked up a https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 so I can test DC amps as well as AC amps. If you do not have a meter, you may want to consider something similar. I chose that one due to the ability to test DC amps as I still do a bit of automotive work.

I'm going to guess you have Dexter axles (look for the tag to verify). I use this manual when I need to reference something for the axles: https://www.dexteraxle.com/user_area...ice_manual.pdf page 15 starts electric brake stuff.

When you ohm the magnets, using 3.2 ohm per magnet you should get about 0.8ohms for the 4. (page 21) Looking on page 10 you will see the TV side of the plug, mirror it about a vertical line (verify which way the notch is) and test the brakes here. Ground is common to brakes and lights. I suggest starting at the plug and working toward the brakes. Inspect the wiring where the pigtail to trailer junction is located.

Thanks, Jlawles2, this is great advice in general, and super helpful, especially part 2. The Dexter manuals should be useful for my brother-in-law, who is an electrician.

I'll post an update once we (he) figures out what's going on here.

JH2112 Since you have help, stay on his heals and let him know in advance you are going to be a Pain. Ask ask ask and ask again. I started doing this when I started walking basically. Dad was on strike so he was at home doing mechanic work on cars for the management at work, mom was working and dad was taking care of me during the day. That's when I started learning (brothers and sisters were all in school) That was over 40 years ago.

Most people related to you are willing to teach. I will work on and teach anyone that shows true interest. The rest can pay someone to fix the stuff they broke.

I have jus sold a class A coach, ordered a Ford F-250 King Ranch , and as soon as it is delivered I will buy a 303RLS. We won’t be full timers any more but yet not weekend warriors either. I would like the option of removing the hitch assembly from the bed of the truck so I can use it as a truck as well. I like the Anderson hitch but realize it will void my frame Warrantee . Can anyone tell me exactly why it voids the warrantee ? Have any actual damage or bent frames occurred to a GD fifth wheel because of the Anderson hitch. Is it the LITTON hitch assembly that isn’t compatible with Anderson so they pressure GD to void the warrantee ? I know Litton sells their own line of fifth wheel truck bed components, are they just protecting their own sales? I guess I’m simply asking is there a real issue with the Anderson hitch or is it simply a threat to void the warrantee.
thank you in advance. Brandy Alexander

Brandy Alexander LCI (Lippert) is owned by Curt, but even before that, they said it voided the warranty from LCI not GD. The issue with the ball adapters has to do with the way they are designed and installed. Most ball adapters move the load introduction point down increasing the torque arm on the frame. The only approved ball adapter at one time was the Reese Goose Box and it did not void the warranty.

Thank you for the information ! So as I understand it correctly the Anderson hitch does not void the GD frame only the LIPPERT component … has there been any real time issues or reported malfunctions ?

              again thanks

I have a new 303rls and the dealer installed the Anderson hitch works great besides the trailer weight is around half of the spec of the hitch. The dealer never said it would void the warranty there are many rvers out there using this same combo on much larger trailers. I timed it and it took me under 3 mins to install and less time to remove.

Dennis, much thanks for the information. I really appreciate it . GD told me today that they believe Anderson hitches has a warrantee that covers the frame in the event there was a problem caused by the hitch. I wrote Anderson today to ask if that was indeed the case and am awaiting their response. In addition the GD factory guy said there have been no problems nor incidents with the hitch and many of their customers are using the Anderson Hitch. I will go forward and buy the Anderson system .
                  again Thanks ! Brandy Alexander

Here is the website that has the $5 million guarantee with regards to the trailer frame.Click the supplemental warranty link, and it will download the PDF of it. https://help.andersenhitches.com/ult...q=supplemental

I have one in my garage, but currently not using it. My Momentum is wide, and my RAM short bed, is one of the smallest of the 1 ton trucks, so I do not want to risk my truck, even with the AUH. My driveway has a 5% grade from a smaller road, and with the turn and climb (backing in), it will raise your eyebrow with the angles, and how far the extended upper front cap of the trailer comes down towards the truck. If everything was flat, I would be using the AUH.

Brandy, I use this swim noodle on my hitch for easy alignment. Once you have it on the ball just use your rear view mirror to back up once the noodle hits the center of the orange coupler just back up till it pushes the noodle to about 45 deg. and your all set.
