Not certain if this is the right area or not, so please move if needed. With the current tropical storm breathing down our necks (literally it's going to be on top of us sometime today), does anyone know of the cross wind stability of an RV??? More specifically the Reflection 303RLS? I filled the fresh tank, added about 2/3's to the black tank and both grey tanks for self weight down low to increase stability. Slides are in, awnings closed, and camper is on the leveling jacks (increased width for stability also). Right now winds are predicted in the 40 mph range. If I could accurately predict the wind direction the most sensible move would be to point it head first or tail first into the wind vs a cross wind.

Jlawles2 Joseph, I do not think 40mph should be a problem however caution is in order. We have been in many thunder storms etc. with winds well in excess of that for a short period with no issues. Should it get much higher for a prolonged period it could be a different story. Can you break the wind with a building or something? Orienting into the wind, as you mentioned, would be your best bet if at all possible. Good luck.

flyfshrockies Dave, Unfortunately no I cannot block wind with a building as the unit sits in the driveway in front of the house not beside. I did the same thing during Harvey with our TT (much lighter and about 8' shorter). Contingency plan if the winds were to get much worse was to move the unit about 120 miles north to my Niece, but this would require me to drive through Houston. Not an ideal drive on a good day without the looming threat of a storm (which makes people drive 10x worse).Joseph

Hi Joseph,
What about towing to a nearby shopping mall or industrial building where you could park along a wall that would break the wind?

Joseph, how far south of Houston are you? We are 2 1/2 to 3 hours inland depending on direction. I always go around Houston if at all possible. I don't expect much here as far as wind and the rain doesn't always pan out. I wish you the best with this thing headed up just off the coast apparently. Thank God it's not a storm with lots of octane. Stay safe.Bill & Cindy

BillinTexas Bill I am due south of Houston off HWY 35 between Angleton and Alvin. I do my best to avoid Houston when we travel, normally heading west till at least Colombus before picking up I10, North I try to use Hwy 59 (soon to be I69). Niece is off I45 though and the cut overs from 59 to 45 are not what they used to be. It's too late now to head up there.
Cate&Rob Rob, unfortunately the local mall is not setup where I could get to a wall easily that is not in the travel paths around the mall and there are no outlying buildings. 29° 3'3.42"N, 95°27'33.27"W is the closest mall (really any building of size) All builds are over 20 minutes from me.
Someone much better with wind will need to check this:

Joseph,
If your yard is large enough, park it in the grass or anywhere headed into the wind. Leave the truck connected if at all possible.
If there is absolutely no possible way to move the rig and it will have to endure a steady side wind, air down the tires on the upwind side and use your jacks to stabilize the rig in that position to shift some mass into the wind. There will be no moving with this strategy.
Wish you the best and hope everything works out for you.

BillinTexas Guest We faired well. Before the weather station on the barn went out, it clocked 43 mph. I know they got worse than that though.
Parking in the yard is not an option unless I plan on digging it out, plus I live in "town" (population is under 5k).
Leaving attached to the truck is not a good thing unless all the landing gear is down as it moves the front pivot stability point to the center, also if something happens to the camper it takes the truck with it.
Now I need to hook up the grinder pump and drain all of the holding tanks. What fun, that's going to take a couple of hours as it has about a 20% duty cycle.Joseph

Jlawles2 Glad you got through it okay. Saw this on Facebook of a MB31 that did not fair well in Ida, so your concern was well placed.
