  • Ford Multi-Contour Seats - do they really help and work?

This is a safety issue with me as I do have back issues and get leg cramps/numbing while driving. So I hope it is OK to ask about them. I currently use a lumbar pillow that does not stay put.

Looking at my new truck order and ran across this option. It's available on the higher trim levels. It adds a few options I don't really need, but might be nice.

Are they better than the stock 10 way premium seats. I'm looking at a King Ranch. I guess what I am asking does the active motion of theses really work at relieving back and leg pressure while driving and do you use it?

This video show how they work, but on the new units they are touch screen controlled https://www.ford.com/support/how-tos...contour-seats/

    Thanks

One thing I learned about driving the newer trucks with power seats is it is nice to change the position while driving. Moving the seat a little bit once in a while relieves pressure in certain areas, when the pressure comes back move the seat again. With the seat memory you can always go back to the comfy setting.

Keith the thought behind these seats would be similar to a hospital bed that constantly adjusts to prevent pressure points, and to maintain good blood flow. So yes they would work well IMO. I have a stainless steel back and would also benefit from a seat like this.

I've experienced active seat massage in a GM owned CT6 Cadillac and really liked these seats.

I have them as they came with the unit I picked up at the end of the year from the dealer. They work in the sense that they do move the seat and stimulate the two areas, back and legs. I only use it occasionally and can’t testify to the effectiveness at relieving pressure as you describe. I try to drive mostly modest amounts in our travels, 300 mi or so, 4-5 hours for a day. I think the feature would be most useful for very long driving days. Sorry, can’t really help you answer your question.

Thanks Brian - I do that already, but they don't have memory and sometimes it takes me a while to get it back to the right spot. Drives me nuts when service folks move them.

I signed up for an account JUST to reply to your question as I stumbled across it as I was looking for updated info on trim lines that have this option.

I too have lumbar issues (arthritis/sciatica) to a nearly disabling degree. I got multicontour seats in a 2016 Lincoln MKS and they were a game changer. My tolerance for vehicle travel went from 15-20 min to several hours in a matter of days once I figured out how to make it work for me.

Multi level adjustments allow for extremely flexible tweaking so that as your body shifts (cramping and spasms) for whatever is triggering your discomfort you can adapt the seat to support it. The direct seat cooling when inflammation starts ramping up is pretty helpful too.

The massage feature is helpful in keeping from being stiff but not really comprehensive enough to be undeniably useful. For me it would need more assertive bladders or even a roller, they’re designed for support not unwinding irritation once it’s started.

Changing the seat shape on the fly to reduce the root cause/need was really the clincher for me.

Best advice I can give you is TRY them. I spent several long “testing” sessions in the showroom just making sure, now, as I’m looking at a replacement vehicle, it’s an absolute requirement.

              EDIT: For reference, I’m 5’5”, 200#

Our F150 Platinum has them and my wife and I love them!
She has major back problems and we typically stop frequently. We just got back from a month long trip to the Seattle area. 2 days of driving last weekend about 8hrs each day. I think they really make a big difference in how long we can sit before needing to stop for a quick rest.

It just dawned on my that I have a Homedics message chair cover (110v) and with the ford 110 volt plug it might work. Also I found these possibility's https://www.amazon.com/car-massage-s...f=sr_nr_p_72_1
A whole lot cheaper than getting the options I don't really need - can also be moved to the trailer for evening use?
Thoughts? Anyone have something similar in thier TV?

                  Thanks
