  • 390RK hitch measuerments

After a 6 month wait my 2022 F350 DRW finally arrived and I can pick up my 2022 390RK. The factory installed hitch is set at the middle adjustment point and I'm trying to determine if I should change that prior to heading to the dealer.

The hitch manual outlines the pictured measurements that should be taken to set the hitch height: A) ground to pin box, D) ground to trailer overhang.

I tried to find specs on the 390RK that would give these measurements but came up empty. This unit comes with the MORryde pin box and Cooper 215/75R17.5 tires if someone has that configuration and a tape measurer I would appreciate the data.

Your post reads like the 390RK is waiting for you at the dealer's lot. If so, can your dealer grab the measurements for you on your actual 5er? If not, maybe the dealer has another 390RK on site that they can measure.

Oops, forgot to remind you about breaking in your new truck before towing.

Thanks, I have a query into the dealer as well.

What type of break-in are you suggesting for the truck?

Ford wants 500 miles on truck befog towing. It's in the owners manual somewhere. Congrats on your new truck too. I am waiting for mine to actually get shipped. Its stuck in the rail yard awaiting a rail car to head west.

Even with the measurements you may need to adjust so take your tools and a torque wrench with you. In general I have found the first setting to try should be to put the hitch head about 2" below the top of the bed rail. That should give you roughly 7" of clearance which is what I shoot for. I found that 6" is just not enough. This is just a guess, but that's where most of my hitches have ended up in height give or take an inch or so.

On edit - you might try giving GD customer service a call as they probably have those measurements on file.

Thanks, I had some conflicting information on the break-in period. I do see now that the manual (which is the same for all superduty from 250-600) is 1000 miles. Looks like I have some driving to do!

The middle location on this hitch looked a bit low to me, thanks for the suggestion on a 2" starting point.

DandDH I have a 21 390 with the same pinbox (morryde 1621HD) and tires. It currently is hitched to the truck so can't measure as requested. But the pin box is unaltered as shipped from GD; the BW companion base I have is set to the middle position. I am totally obsessed with having things level. The nose is about an inch high from level according to my eye at about 30 feet. Good enough. 6.5 inches of bed clearance at the tail corners. Next week all will be disconnected and I can get measurements if you still need them.

I just changed trucks (see my signature line); the dually sits 1.5 inches lower at the rear of bed rail to ground, with tape measure just forward of side of rear bumper.

Thanks DarnDave Moving the Ford factory installed hitch position to the bottom holes worked best. It would have been just at 6" clearance with the center location. I'm closer to 8" now.
