  • Hard Bed Cover Folding

Looking for a recommendation on a hard folding bed cover for my Silverado 6' 9" bed /Standard. I have a Pullrite super slide that I leave in and would like to install a folding bed cover that I can leave over the front part of the bed when hitched. When unhitched I would like to cover everything up and provide security. I have looked at Bak Flip MX and the Lomax , really like the fit of the Lomax but being able to fold it all the forward and flip it vertically to access the hole bed is a nice feature on the Bakflip MX. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.

GetOnTheRoad I have the Bak (Ford long bed so keep that in mind). I do love that it folds up all the way, and the "shelf"it creates to protect some items from rain. My only complaint is the weight of the panels for the long bed truck, and when back all the way it blocks my bed camera. It's actually scratched the lens from when I've traveled with it up all the way when my bed was loaded a couple times (it is supposedly designed to do this).

When I bought it the shop I bought from recommended a roll up for fifth wheel use, but I was sure I wanted the hard flip. I hate to give up the bed space to the canister for the roll up but I think I might try that next time. I've have a variety over the years from a hard fiberglass tonneau, to a soft roll up, to a soft trifold, and now the Bak. All have had their benefits and downfalls and none have been perfect yet.

Please take a hard look at the Retrax bed cover option for your truck. I just installed a new one on my new truck and posted on the install. It locks in any position - something the other covers don't and does not obscure the rear view when retracted or folded..

      Hope this helps.

I had a soft roll up and liked it but it was a small pain to roll up and secure, had to move from side to side to secure. I was going to go with the hard fold up but after talking to ncitro , I also have a 8' bed, I decided on the Pace Edwards Jackrabbit. I do lose some space from the can in the front of the bed but it is sooo nice and worth it to me. We also haul firewood so that has cut into my amount I can haul. Having a short bed you may not want to lose that space. The Bakflip MX was the one I was going to get as there are lots of folks that do like them.

I had two BAKflip MX4 covers on two different trucks. They worked well and I really liked them, except that you have the panels folded up against the cab when you need to have an open bed. My recent (3rd) experience with Bakflip for my new RAM 2500 did not go well and I received 3 consecutive damaged shipments over 3 weeks. I finally went with a Peragon aluminum sliding panel, down-folding cover. The panels fold down into the bed and "accordion fold" against the cab. Easy to remove the whole accordion panel unit when needed. The only down side to the Peragon is that you lose a little bed space near the cab (18"?) to allow for the down folding panels, and, if you pack your bed full to the cab wall, you can't fold them down to retract and you then only have a "covered bed shell". It is working for me so far and I use a "pull stick" for all my totes in the bed. For a 5th wheel, I don't think these flip/fold types would be the best option, seems like the nice retractable sliding units would be best. I saw a video of a guy who added a "stop" hole in his sliding bed cover rail hardware just forward of his 5th wheel hitch, seemed pretty cool.
          Good luck
