I have been looking at upgrading the stock pin box to cushion the road bumps further. Will upgrading to a TrailAir or MorRyde box help out in this regard? Don’t want to change something that works. Recently roads have been so bad traveling through Illinois and Indiana even the rear roller shade and valance came off wall to land (thankfully) on sofa. Note: keep some short 3/4” Molly’s in your kit……

Our experience has been that we upgraded to a Trail Air pin box when we purchased new our 2014 Reflection 337 and our 2020 Solitude S2930. When towing and looking out the back window we can see relative movment between truck and fifth wheel. Air has to be added periodically. 70 psi has been the sweet spot. Highly recommend.2020 Solitude 2930RL S-Class

I have been looking at two options that are in budget, the RotoFlex and the MoRyde. My hitch is a Demco Recon and the head pivots front to back and side to side. I thought to ask Demco what their opinion was on which pin box would work best with their system. Surprised to learn that the RotoFlex since it also pivots would work against the hitch. They suggested going with the MoRyde design a system of 4 separate cushions that move back and forth movement (doesn’t rotate) and moves side to side. This tends to give a better ride experience they explained.
Has anyone swapped their stock pin box with the MoRyde? Does it help cushion those chucking experiences on bad roads?

Hi Vivian,
Interesting learning on RotoFlex vs MORryde designs. I don’t have either . . . but, will be very interested in where this discussion leads. 3” of fore/aft travel on the MORryde seems like a lot considering the tight clearances with a 6.5 ft truck box.

Vivian, I have the MorRyde on my 303. I did have to get the capture plate for the slider as it comes with some plastic blocks to prevent rotation of the king pin plate in reference to the box. Definitely increased towing comfort.Joseph

Thus far I can say it did help with the chucking. Since install towed from Houston to Estes Park and back.

You can't see it in the pic, but the nut holds the plastic guide next to the chrome rods. The plastic pads on the bottom are what the king pin plate rides on, and there is a big rubber pad on the inside. If you want more pics, let me know and I will walk out and see if I can get better / more pictures.Joseph

Cate&Rob I had the morryde + short box GM for several years on two different brand 5th wheels. Never an issue. I think the 3 inches is actually 1.5 in each direction from center for 3 total. It is a smooth ride for the most part. On some nasty roads, nothing is going to make a differenceDave and Darren Bakersfield, CA

We got our MorRyde pin box yesterday at their facility in Elkhart. Took them 30 minutes to install. We were able to spend the night they have 50 amp service but no water or dump station. The cost of the box was $650 for the one that fits my 303rls rated to 21k lbs install was an extra $100. Lots of folks there for the IS upgrade.
Before we arrived at MoRyde we were getting our annual suspension service at Lippert in Goshen. This year I was due for new bushings along with bearing inspection and repack. But my tech also found my equaflex rubber was deteriorating and since it’s within warranty replaced it with their Road Armor equalizer as a swap. I paid for the heavy duty shackles and wet bolt kit. But install and equalizer on the house. According to the literature on this equalizer and a video I found on etrailer, it also helps with minimizing chucking. So between this and the new pinbox I should be noticing a difference. Got new rotors and bearings, springs still in good shape so just got new bushings and grease bolts.
The testing done were on the wonderful roads in and out of Elkhart which just about tore up my unit this past June when I approached from the west into GD factory. Going through those same roads which as of yesterday, were getting even more construction was a night and day experience. You can tell you are going through expansion joints and bad patches but it’s dampened 90%. I don’t know if that is a result of having the road armor plus the new pinbox. Overall, I am very happy with the results and hope to do the ultimate test on rest of my trip.3 PhotosVivian
