  • Pismo Beach

I am looking for any forum members who are familiar with towing their travel trailer (or fifth wheel) at Pismo Beach. Did you have any specific challenges crossing the creek? How high of a tide is acceptable to get through? How far down the beach did you get before you aired down your tires?

My son are looking to go there soon. We've got lots of experience camping at Pismo, but we never were the ones driving the truck that was towing the trailer.

    Thank you.

Being that the location is on the ocean, personally I would try to avoid driving the trailer through any water. Salt water is killer on metal parts especially in the braking system.

If I were to drive through water, Keep it below the bottom of the rim (probably 1/2 the height of the tire between the rim and the road) and travel slow (again back to that salt water eating all the metal as it's sprayed on pretty much everything metal under there).

The State Parks Dept. temporarily close the crossing when the depth exceeds 12" so you may be stuck temporarily on the beach or trying to get to the beach. They keep notices up to date on their web page http://www.ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1207 and on social media. It's been years since I've driven on the beach, aired down as soon as I got on the beach. Never did try towing a trailer out there. Good Luck.

tbwilliams, It's been decades since I was last at Pismo. My wife, son, and I used to go with her family back in the 1980s and early 1990s. We are so looking forward to going back. I was reading about how they close Arroyo Grande Creek when it hits a water level of 12 inches. We will be keeping tabs on the tides. Thanks for the advice.
