  • BLM Notice for SW AZ / S CA dispersed camping

The following notice was posted at the La Posa LTVAs, south of Quartzsite, AZ on March 30. This text is OCR from a picture of the posted sign. I've read through it and corrected the OCR errors I found, but please excuse me if I missed any. PM me if you find something and I'll correct it.

    TEXT BEGINS

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Colorado River District continues to work with state and local authorities to monitor the COVID-19 situation in the area, in an effort to balance public health and safety with providing outdoor recreation opportunities during this challenging time.

Currently, the La Posa North, South West, and Tyson Wash Long Term Visitor Areas (LTVA) south of Quartzsite, Arizona, and Imperial Dam LTVA in California, remain open to the public, but are currently at maximum capacity. Dispersed camping areas near the LTVAs are also full. We recommend visitors look for alternative camping locations. Please call our Lake Havasu Field Office (928-505-1200) or Yuma Field Office (928-317-3200) for the latest information on potential camping areas.

BLM's contractor continues to provide the LTVAs with amenity services through April 15, which is the end of the traditional winter season. While the BLM has waived day-use fees to our recreation sites, overnight fees remain in effect for the LTVAs.

After April 15, it is our intention that the LTVAs will convert to 14-day camping areas, as they do each year. However, please be advised that after April 15, amenities such as toilets, trash removal and wastewater dumping services (both black and gray water) may no longer be provided, due to contractor, staff and supply shortages. As such, visitors utilizing the LTVAs after April 15 should plan for alternative means of dumping wastewater and trash disposal, such as "packing it in/packing it out," since dumping of my kind is prohibited on public lands. Visitors should also plan to bring their own toiletries, hand sanitizer, and cleaning supplies,

As the BLM continues to work with local governments in the area to monitor conditions on the ground, we urge public land visitors to follow any instructions from the Governor or local authorities as well as the COVID-19 guidelines provided by public health authorities and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

    • maintain a safe distance between yourself and other groups

    • limit your group to 10 people or less your hands

    • wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer if you can't wash

    • avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze

    • stay home if you feel sick

    END

    Hope everyone remains healthy!
