  • Hire RV Inspector?

I have heard of people hiring an RV inspector similar to what you would do when buying a house. I found this organization that actually "certifies" these inspectors.

    https://nrvia.org/locate/

Has anyone ever used one? What do others think about this? The particular inspector in my area (Myrtle Beach) has 15 years experience as a technician fixing RV's. Obviously knows alot for than me.

Would love to hear everyone's advice.

I haven't used one, but have had conversations with an inspector (on a forum similar to this). While his advocacy may seem self-serving, there are obvious advantages to having someone who knows what they are doing.

Of course, as with any time a contractor is being hired to do a job, references and checking on these individuals is a must.

P.S. Again, I hope you don't mind that I made this topic it's own thread.

i would think a lot depends on your experience and thus your confidence in doing your own PDI.
The "surveyor" I'm sure knows more than us average Joes but unless he disassembles the trailer, he/she can't see any more than us. Granted they could observe something that throws a flag and that's great but in my experience, most things that happen tend to occur with repeated use so....

That takes us back to, if your not comfortable then hire another set of eyes. If you are then do your due diligence during the PDI and as always, prepare for the worst down the road.

Capt Bob -- sorry, moved the topic to it's own thread so moved your post here.

I agree, having some experience with owning a trailer and following a good PDI checklist before purchase would be what any of these inspectors would be able to do. But finding things like bad welds or other factory defects beyond the scope of the checklist is not possible even with a qualified inspector.
