  • Aloha from freezing cold Iowa

Thanks for adding me to this group. New to RVing. Trying to find out the easy way how cold is too cold for RVing? Hoping to take Transcend out this weekend for tailgating at football game, but Temps this coming weekend will drop to single digits at night. Can fresh water holding tank and plumbing survive as long as water heater is on and trailer is heated? Thanks much.

    Hi Dan,
    Welcome to the forum.

The low point drains that are sticking out from under the camper are susceptible to freezing. The drains "T" into the camper's water lines, so if the freeze gets to the "T" water will stop flowing. Good discussion on the topic in this thread: https://gdrvowners.com/forum/operati...4-frozen-pipes

IMO the short answer is no. The long answer is yes but. With shore/generator power and plenty of propane and a skirt around the trailer and a heater under the trailer, then maybe.

one idea would be to leave the antifreeze in there and use the public rest rooms.

It is important to use the propane furnace, even if you think you can get by with electric heat . . . because the ducted furnace has outlets in the underbelly that will keep the tanks and plumbing warm. The electric fireplace and perhaps other electric space heaters will not do this.
