  • Quick fix for sliding door bungee that came loose

After the bungee slipped out of its plastic anchor for the second time on the sliding bathroom door, I had to come up with a quick fix before getting back on the road. The problem is the metal rings crimped on each end of the bungee are barely big enough to keep the bungee in place under the plastic anchor.

I found an easy fix that holds the bungee better than the original configuration. I put a small zip tie on each end of the bungee. With the excess zip tie cut off, this makes a solid end that is a tighter fit in the plastic anchor. The zip tie is actually a bit larger than the slot in the anchor, so it digs into the wood surface just a bit which helps prevent it from being pulled out of the anchor.

Reinstalling the anchor was a little more difficult because the zip-tied ends did not want to stay in the anchor as I tried to reinstall it. To solve that, I used a small plastic knife from the kitchen to hold the ends in place while I was screwing the anchor back on.
