  • Residential refrigerator making smelly ice

The ice coming out of our icemaker in our Solitude smells like sewage. The water coming out of the faucets smells fine but we went ahead & replaced the outside water filter just to be on the safe side. However the icemaker is still producing terrible smelling ice even after dumping the ice & making several new batches. Any idea what the problem is or how to resolve?

Have you used the ice maker a lot in the past? If not you may need to sanitize the water line feeding the ice maker. We found in our RV that there is a line that goes to a rear outside spray port that we did not use but water collected in there and became stagnant. This line is shared by the kitchen sink and the smell from the water in the kitchen sink became bad, ran some fresh water thru the spray port line and all was ok. After sanitizing the whole system the smell went completely away. You might need to do a complete system sanitization, excluding the water tank if you have a tank water heater.

Thanks so much for the information. We leave our unit in an rv park & visit there one week each month. We turn off the water & icemaker when we're not there so your point makes sense about water left in the line becoming stagnant. We're still relatively new to the rv world...only owned for a little over a year now. Will definitely try your suggestion! Thanks again.

Check the refrigerator for its own water filter.

        Also try flushing the HWH.
