We have a 2022 GD 278BH 5th Wheel with a single 8’ Wide X 36’’ Deep slide with a Schwintek drive mechanism. From day one, the extend/retract slide movement has seemed to be very underpowered. We hold our breath every time we need to open or close the slide.
Our dealer ‘instructor’ told us when we picked up our new RV to continue to hold the in/out button a few seconds after the slide actually achieving full extension or retraction to allow the two motors to get back in synch if they were out of synch. We have done this religiously. Is this really a recommended procedure?
The last 3-4 times we have used the slide it has hung up (stopped moving) on both the extension and the retraction. When this happens, we stop and bring the slide back to its in or out starting position. The second try has been successful but this does not address the problem.
We noticed today that the slide trim on the left side is catching on an adjacent door frame. See these attached pictures that show the scrapes and the construction of the slide trim. The right side has the vertical trim is recessed about ½ inch from the horizontal trim. The left side has the vertical trim about ½ inch beyond the horizontal trim (Pic 1, Pic 2).
My theory is that the slide has a little side to side wiggle and the error in the construction of the left side trim has removed all of the wiggle room. Or the side to side wiggle could be caused by the trim rubbing. Either way it should not be making contact when the slide moves.
Am I diagnosing this correctly? Any tips of advise?
