    Cate&Rob Rob, from my experience when we got the first 5er (if there was a lemon law for campers it would definitely been a case), the hitch was setup completely wrong. As you know the 5er plate SHOULD pivot in 2 directions... The fore aft cross bolt was tightened to the point it locked the head side to side, thus any torque from the trailer suspension compression was directly transmitted into the rear of the trailer.

    I think this probably contributed to several issues we had in hooking and unhooking the unit. Once corrected, both 5ers are much easier to hook and unhook.

    Everyone should read, re read, and re read the instructions with their hitch (regardless of bumper or 5er). After reading multiple times, then go out and go through the manual with the hitch checking and verifying everything. JUST BECAUSE THE DEALER SOLD IT AND INSTALLED IT DOES NOT MEAN ITS CORRECT. As stated many times over the years, you must setup everything with hitches when the trailer is in TRAVEL TRIM.
