  • Spreadsheet to Review Trailer and Tow Vehicle Loads

After finding my 2018 Silverado was just not enough to comfortably tow a 2012 Outback 298RE (7500 lbs dry), I purchased a new 2022 Imagine XLS 23LDE (5600 lbs dry). I made up this spreadsheet to estimate and check key loading parameters. Your PDF tutorials on loading and limits are very good, and this spreadsheet parallels them pretty well.

Based on the estimates, for the Outback 298RE I was at 98% GVWR on the truck and 95% GCWR truck+trailer. For the Imagine XLS 23LDE i am at 94% GVWR on the truck and 81% GCWR truck+trailer. I think I'm good on paper and the real-world towing experience feels much more in control.

PS I discovered I can't upload an XLS file. If a moderator or another user has a suggestion on how, I would be glad to make it available. I attached a PDF of it instead. They gray cells with red font are carried or calculated numbers, the rest is input by the user. Truck and Trailer Loading Estimate.pdf

Last year my wife and I were brand new to RVs and we bought a 2022 23LDE that we liked a lot. The layout, 2 doors, and Dometic fridge is better than the Furrion we have in the 280RS . We towed it from northern VA to Grand Canyon and back. Being a complete newbie last year (and not much better this year), I drove myself nuts with all the weight calcs. Your targeted TW of 747 lbs, seems right. I was running 800-850 lbs because I liked more TW. I have a Sureline scale and used it to help load for my tongue weight I wanted. If you want any more info from our experience on the 23LDE just message me. Its a good camper, enjoy.

neilstanton -- the spreadsheet was in .xlsx format, so converted to .xls (which is supported here). I'll add to the Reference Library post, too.

      Thanks for sharing!

Forum members, note the spreadsheet appears to be designed for travel trailers, not 5vrs. 5vr pin weight is a different % than a travel trailer's tongue weight.

Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise, we have nothing to gain should you choose to purchase a product or engage a service we discuss on this forum.
