  • 5th wheel bumper hitch receiver

Good afternoon. I'm curious about installing a hitch receiver on my 2020 Momentum to hang a cargo carrier off. Since the bumper appears to be 'integrated' into the rear, what type of a receiver might I use? Thanks for your time.

    Barg,
    First, welcome to the forum.

What model Momentum do you own? It's helpful if you'll add it to your signature (like mine, below).

Finally, I'd advise consulting with your dealer or Grand Design (Customer Service) directly to get their input regarding adding a hitch receiver. 574-825-9679 is GD's phone number.

    Again--welcome!

Barg welcome to the forum! Thank you for asking this question. We seem to get this question quite a bit. If you are installing any type of a receiver hitch you must remember that that hit should be welded to the chassis itself. Adding anything to the bumper could potentially cause the bumper to tear. The bumper is technically rated for 110 lb however that is typically static weight. If you add weight to the bumper and your bouncing down the road dynamic weight and dynamic force will take place and your 50 lb will intern turn into 90 to 100 lb.

I will tell you that even adding a welded receiver hitch could potentially cause a warranty void for your chassis. Now we don't like to throw that term around.... but we do have to advise that if something were to go wrong with your chassis or even with side walls or your rear wall that could be directly related to too much weight being carried on a receiver hitch in the rear you could be responsible for any repairs or damage that occurs. I truly appreciate you asking this question and I wish you luck and whatever decision you choose to make.

Oops--sorry--didn't notice the question was posted in the "Ask Grand Design" section.

Since GDRV did produce some 310GK's without receiver's, how does GD propose a new owner could get a receiver. I asked Lippert for a drawing of the receiver that they would put on at the factory, and was planning to provide that to the hitch company that my dealer in Langley BC would use. Are you telling me that if I get the receiver added by the dealer, or the same company the dealer would use, that that could be a warranty issue? Could you please expand on that issue please?
