  • Solitude Rear Tow Hitch Questions

First off, really enjoy this site and all the information out there. Of course, searching finds no answer for this question.

We own a 2019 3350RL, GVWR: 16800. It has the standard rear receiver hitch found on all Solitudes (3000 WR, 300 TW). What I'm wondering, I want to start using a rear cargo carrier to carry a 100lb generator on on trips. (I think the latest freeze event in Texas taught a lot of us to always carry one, even if not planning on using).
What I'm wondering though, is this extra 150 or so pounds on the back going to 1) effect the hitch weight on the truck 2) effect the ride/towing characteristics of the trailer 3) other things I haven't thought of.
From what I've read , yes it will bounce some, but is that bounce excessive/noticable?

    Thanks

BuddyB1959 I can't speak from personal experience of using a carry rack on the back about the bounce. Yes it will affect pin weight, how much will be the a percentage of the weight thats on the back will be lifted from the front. The axles are a giant pivot point of a see saw. Generator is one weight tongue weight is the other.

As for Bounce, I have followed several trailers with the carry racks. Bounce is definitely road dependent from what I have noticed. Also, if you can minimize the "slop" in the receiver it helps with some of the impact shock loading on the cary rack.

If you decide against the rear carry you may want to consider this Stromberg Carlson Tongue Tray. I've seen a couple of these in use and they seem to be pretty good. Has a capacity of 300 lbs.

Thanks for the suggestion, but won't work for me since this is a 5th Wheel.

No it wouldn't. Sorry I didn't pick up on that.

I use this device on the Blue Ox ball mount to remove any movement of it in the truck's receiver, and I also have one on the bike rack on the back of my 315RLTS. Once installed there is no movement of whatever is in the receiver. Highly recommended.

Note there are different sizes depending on the size of the reciever. (The Blue Ox's is 2.5", the trailer's is 2".)
