Just completed a 1600+/- mile trip over 6 days with my 4, wait, 4 and 1/2 as she reminds me, old granddaugher.
Was the 2 of us, 3 days running, 1 day sitting, then 2 more days - purposely not a lot of miles or time on all but day 3 which is why I scheduled a down day for her to not be in the truck driving.
Idea was to get her to AZ so she could see some of the family she doesn't normally get to see very often and then have everyone come together at Christmas.
Wasn't all fun, few tears, lots of laughter, tons of hugs, few small silences as she played with different toys, fun conversations, WAY too many questions, and many random "I love you Tata's" - highly reccomend if you get the chance!
If you do take this on, one key element to the laughter and fun are "Tata's imaginery elves"..... that every once in a while set a fruit rollup or small snack baggie with Goldfish, apple slices, or some other sort of treat on the center console for a little one to find. It became a hight point of the trip for her and I - her wondering what the elves looked like, where they were hiding, and so many other things and me having to field the questions.
Hopefully this inspires someone else to take on creating a wonderful memory with their grandchild!
