  • Need Advice/Suggestions for Trip to GD

Hello all. We will be making a trip to GD in June for some body work repair. We have never had to do this before, so I am asking for advice or tips from some of you that have. The repair could take a few days and we are full time. Do we need to find a rental somewhere while it is being repaired? What do you recommend?
    Thank You in advance!

I am not sure about rentals but there are plenty of hotels in the area to stay at. You might also want to schedule a factory tour while you are there, pretty neat to see the assembly process.

Grand Design works very well with full time RVers, ask them for recommendations.

Breakfast (or lunch) at the Mayberry Cafe, the RV Museum...lots to do in the area! My DW and I stayed in a local motel when we had work done on our 315RLTS at MORRyde. (It was on our dime.)

With the new service center, last I heard was there was no staying outside the facility the night prior (Iike you could when the service center was at the old location). I'm sure GD will talk this through with you so you're prepared.
Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise, we have nothing to gain should you choose to purchase a product or engage a service we discuss on this forum.

I have gotten some information that indicates they have a campground at the new location. And that we can arrive early. I was thinking of a short term rental ,while we can’t be in the camper, because we have pets. Shipshewana is definitely on the must see again list.

I suggest you use "bringfido.com" to find a place to stay. They recommend dog friendly hotels, airbnb and vrbo rentals. It's a great website.

There is NO camping at the new Service Center. There may be a campground nearby.

              Adding to my comment above.

There is still camping at GD when you have an RV there for service. However the camping facility is located at the main Grand Design Campus, right outside of the doors of the previous Service Center. When you camp there for service the next day you will have to travel to the new Service Center which is about 1/2 hour away, not sure of the time to get there. Most Service is scheduled for the RV to be at the Service Center at 6 am so make sure you leave time for the trip. To reiterate the comment above there is NO camping at the new Service Center.

So the new service center is not on the main campus? Dang, it was sure nice to have your rig worked on during the day and have them move it out at night and stay then send it back in the next day. I guess all things new are not better.

No it is not on the main campus. I think GD will have it back there someday when they build a new Service Center but until then,,, it is an inconvenience for GD as well.
