I have had my 4 month old trailer at the dealership for 6 weeks waiting on warranty approval for a hole in the awning. Does it usually take this long for parts to get approved and shipped?

Good morning NWtraveler. Welcome to the forum. I'm one of the forum moderators and I'm going to tag your post so that Grand Design representatives can take a look and find out the story behind your repairs. I see that you have your VIN listed in your profile, so that will help expedite getting you an answer.

In my experience getting the approval from GD for items that are part of the coach build has been quick and customer service has been very good. Mine involved a bad roof job from factory and a bad seal on a slide. I sent pictures and within a couple of days it was approved. I cannot speak to appliances etc... I hope this helps.2017 F250 Diesel Superduty SRW SWB

We've had over 40 issues large and small with our Solitude, very frustrating. Towards the end of our one-year warranty (the five months it was at the dealer did NOT get added onto our warranty period!) I learned that it's usually much easier and faster to arrange for a local mobile technician - with PRE-approval from Grand Design - to effect warranty repairs rather than leave it with a dealer to do it.
GD will ship parts under warranty to you and you can install them yourself, or you can arrange a written estimate from a mobile tech, send it and get approval from GD, and have the mobile tech do the install. Generally, you'll have to pay the tech and wait a few weeks for reimbursement from GD. This approach is pretty much your only choice if you use your trailer to travel away from your dealer, since it now seems that most GD dealers won't provide prompt service - often won't provide ANY service at all - for trailers not purchased from them.
It's possible in your case that there's a holdup at the awning manufacturer. A good dealer could find out promptly what is the problem - all it takes is a phone call to GD. Since you've already left your trailer with your dealer and not getting answers, call Grand Design yourself (have your VIN number in hand) and find out what's going on with your warranty claim from their end. Then armed with that information see if you can get your dealer to pay more attention to you.
