  • Tire/Loading and Manufacturing Labels - Remove with Caution.

When we purchased our Solitude, we went with 8K axles. This increased the GVWR from 15,000# to 18,000#. The labels GDRV installed on the rig still showed the 15K GVWR. I contacted GDRV, and they sent replacement labels with the 18K rating.

I peeled off the old labels, and was surprised to see they were marked "VOID". So a word of caution. Never try to reposition your existing labels. If they are removed for any reason, they will indicate void.

GVWR is based on suspension components (springs, axles, brakes and shackles) and frame construction combined together.
Simply adding heavier duty axles will not increase your GVWR.

guest2 -- (Rich) -- In a normal situation you'd be correct. In this case there's more to the story than is apparent in Jim's post. If I remember correctly, the original label was incorrect from the OEM. Jim called GD and got a corrected (accurate) label based on his rig's build.

TucsonJim -- if I butchered that explanation please correct me.

The vehicle manufacturer can increase the GVWR by adding stronger components. They are the only ones allowed to change the GVWR. Take the Solitude 310GK for an example. It's rated for 15,000# with 7K axles. But 18,000# with the optional 8K axles. In my case, I opted for the 8K axles, but they placed the 15K# placard on it.

I have a 2024 that also came through with 15,000 GVWR stickers on it and am trying to sort it out through my dealer before I take delivery. Did you just go through GD customer service phone or was there anything special you had to do to get this resolved. So far it has been more complicated than I would have anticipated.

            Thanks

Did you order the unit with the 8K axle upgrade?

Do you live in a state where the weight can not be changed?

Yes, I ordered the 8,000 lbs Morryde IS setup. I am in Vermont - it has yet to be registered, so the state doesn’t have it in their records yet.
