  • 2019 2400BH slide out storage/compartment door

I'd like to add a storage/compartment door on the slide out (roughly where the red box is). Our 2019 2400BH has the U shaped dinette and the center section is permanent (not movable). It's so hard to get into it, that we don't use it and it's useless wasted space. To get at it, I need to remove all cushions and the table (I'm 6', 220#), my wife might be able to lay down or crawl under the table which means that's not going to happen.

Is there any reason that I can't do this (or have it done)? If it's done properly, will it somehow do something bad to the slide out mechanism? Will it weaken the structure some how?

    Thanks,
    John

Anything done right will work, of course. You will likely be hurting the R value of the slide and things of that nature. Also, being a Schwintek mechanism, there may be some weight restrictions to consider.

Interestingly, I have been pondering adding a rear storage door to the trailer that would access the open area under the bottom bunk. That is a large space that when things are in the rear of, are hard to get to, but a nice outside door would make things like lawn chairs a breeze. It might be an aesthetic issue though.

John - did you ever do anything with putting a door in here? I’m looking at putting a door in a similar place on a slide (but for outside access to a cat box). I did a small door on a smaller camper years ago, but looking for some firsthand experience.

Oh by the way, I did add the outside door and cat litter space behind the fireplace. 2 years in fulltiming. Works great!
