Instead of getting a new camper because my son is now getting too tall for the bunk beds we just modified ours. Love how it came out. Still need to add a few more touches but the top bunk is out, better mattress added for the bottom, new lighting, new privacy curtain, and a shelf for storage. Saw a similar one on here and used it for our inspiration! We took the whole walls down only to find 1x1's as the studs in the walls between the bathroom and the old bunk so we also put a 2x4 across the bottom under the bed that is anchored into each one and took the time to run electrical cables up to the top so that we could move that little light off the side of the wall to the top for better lighting of the area. We also added a USB outlet combo receptacle to the rear to make more room for charging. Now he has plenty of room for his stuff in those bins on the shelf at the top. The back wall is a 3/4 laminated fiberglass panel so we couldn't add any reinforcing studs to it and simply used coarse construction screws and a whole tube of construction adhesive to the back of the shelf which worked out great with the added side support brackets on each side it can really hold some weight now.

Good looking job Matt. Sure he will enjoy the extra room.
Hint on the construction adhesive. if you did not remove the paper on the wall, the glue between the paper and the luan backing is the limiting factor there.Joseph
