  • refrigerator turns itself off

We have a 2015 320x Solitude with a 121x Norcold refrigerator. We have been having problems with the refrigerator turning off. If you don't happen to catch it, as you can guess, in a few days in hot weather, you have a stinky mess. Power to the refrigerator is not a problem, and it has happened both in a campground and at home, where the camper is plugged in to a dedicated power source. Also could use some tips on how to get the odor out of the refrigerator, since we didn't catch it in time this last time, and all our meat thawed and spoiled.

Welcome to Grand Design's Technical Forum, Bob/Kimh.

I did a search and found a service manual for the 121 here: http://www.rvrefrigeratorrepair.com/...d-Service-1210

Check out Section 9 - Diagnostics that starts on page 73. There may be a stored code in the fault history. That will tell you exactly why the refrigerator shut down (if there is indeed a fault code to read).

Please post back if there is (or isn't!) a fault code.

These are the screen LEDs that were not lit. screen 4, 4 DC High Voltage and 7 AC heaters failed open. SCREEN 5, 1 thermistor disconnected/malfunction. SCREEN 7 Note: I did not have the LP gas on. 2 sensing Flame. SCREEN 8 5 DC power to light circuit, 6 DC Power to ignition circuit, 4 power to gas valve solenoid coil. SCREEN 9 1 Over 14.5 volts DC, 7 below 10.5 volts DC. SCREEN 0, 1 over 13.2 volts AC, 7 below 10.8 volts AC. Lot of codes!! Thankyou for your help.

I'm a bit tired, so may be off-base with this first reaction, but based on the codes check the health of your battery. If it's going bad that will affect the refrigerator as it will shut off below a certain voltage, regardless of whether AC or propane is available. Especially if not on shore power or if the converter is off (or it's going bad, too).

Thanks for posting back--look forward to reading the final resolution.

Bob - Here's a tip sheet from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture on how to get rid of refrigerator odors.
