  • Lighting Changes - 2024 Solitude 310GK

On our new Solitude, there is one switch on the front of the RV that controls the following lighting:
    1. Front Cap
    2. Underbelly
    3. Basement LED strip
    4. Battery compartment light. Yes, you must first turn on the front switch before you can operate the light switch.

So if I want to operate any of those lights, they all turn on. If I want to light the battery compartment, the cap, underbelly and basement lights are all on....

Not only were the circuit switching not well thought out, but the back of the switch and all the wiring was inside the propane compartment! Nope, not on my watch... Here are some photos.

This one switch controlled four different lighting circuits. And all this wiring was stuffed into the propane comparment.

If you're going to install electrical circuits in the propane compartment, it would be a good idea to be careful with your wiring.

I spent the day moving wires and installing switches to control each circuit independently. I purchased a project box and three gang switch from Amazon. I removed the wiring from the existing switch, and re-routed it into the basement. In installed the switch box which can now control each lighting circuit independently. I also rewired the 12V battery compartment light to a separate 12V source so I don't need to activate two switches to make it function.

Yup, the same way that my 378MBS is wired. Took me a long time to figure out the front compartment lights. I was about ready to dig into why they didn't work and stumbled across this before I tore into it. I like you solution and think I will need to do this too once I have a bit more time. Hopefull after August or September when I think I can retire. I agree as dumb way to wire all of this.

Good catch and great remedy! Makes me feel for those owners who are less savvy with these things than you and some others on here.
      Thanks for sharing this one!

        Nice job Jim.
One of my spring projects is to take the cap light switch which is in the storage area of our Imagine and turn it into a 3-way with the second switch in our rig by the compass connect control. Never made sense to me the way it came from the factory. I already have purchased the switches and wiring, will be running it in the spring along with a few cat6's that I'm installing.
Thanks for the post and pictures.
