  • Adding LED's to the awning.

I apologize if this has been asked, I didn't see it in the forum. I have a 2020 Explore 260RB and want to add LED's to the awning but don't want to have any wires showing and have to deal with plugging in or drilling any holes. Is it possible to install the lights in the end of the owning in the groove in the rolling part and wire direct into the motor and using a remote to turn on/off. If so what would be the best lights to use and process in wiring direct. Thanks in advance.

Hi Brian. Welcome to the forum. We're glad you joined us.

I'm not familiar with your 260RB. Does the awning operate with a switch from inside the unit? If so, there would be no power to the awning motor unless the switch was pushed. And as soon as you let off the switch, the power would be gone. No power to the motor means no power to the lights. Maybe I'm not understanding what you're trying to do.

Yes the switch is inside the camper. I wasn't sure how the motor was wired and was looking for the easiest way to install lights without drilling into the camper.

OK, this may be about the dumbest idea I've ever floated, but here goes nothing ...

How about swapping out the exterior speakers for lights? There's 12v where the speaker wires originate (back of the radio) that could be routed to a switch you'd install behind the entertainment center.

The gauge of the wiring would have to be verified against the current draw of the lights, and a fuse installed in the line, too, to protect this "new" circuit, but that's about the only way I can think of to get lights outside without drilling holes.

Let me hastily add that this is technically possible, but it depends on the ability of the individual doing the work and involves a level of risk the individual doing it must be willing to accept. (Since you were already thinking of drilling holes and adding wiring I assumed a level of competency.)

Good luck, and please post what you end up doing as other owners will definitely be interested.

What about tapping the power to the existing exterior LED light?

Not only do I like your name "Pubguy" but I think your idea is spot on.
