  • Replacing RV 7 pin connector

I wanted to replace the 7 pin on my rig and in preparation noticed that there appears to be no screws or other means of securing the housing around the wire and wire covering, so, is the idea to cut the entire plug off and slide the wires through the hole in the new plug and make the connections? Or am I missing something here? All tips appreciated.

Dave - Many of us have replaced our 7-pin connector by replacing the whole set up all the way back to the connector box. The replacement brand of choice appears to be this one:

Thanks Jim, short story shorter, at this juncture I’m just doing the plug. Btw, this may be a stupid question but, I’m hooked up to 30 amp Svc at my house so I’m guessing that I should disconnect the power before replacing the plug. Is that correct?

Yes you can disconnect power. The plug end you are replacing is molded onto the cord, so yes you will need to cut the end off to replace. Use some electric grease inside the new plug to prevent corrosion on the connections inside the plug.

Yes, you should either disconnect shore power or turn off the converter breaker. You should also disconnect the negative battery terminal. While your working on the 7-way plug, you'll have 12V power if you don't disconnect.

Got it, as I suspected but wanted to make sure. As always, appreciate your experience and wisdom.

Nice job Jim. I purchased this box but just have not done it yet. Just need to get around to it. Likely in the spring as I am quickly running out of nice weather here in the great white north and too many other things to do around the sticks and bricks to expect to get to this before spring.
