    Update to this thread: the thermistor is called the Freeze Sensor. What it does it tell the air conditioner to turn off the compressor if the evaporator freezes. As documented in other threads, it must be attached to the fins of the evaporator for it to work correctly. The sensor plugs into the control board (usually found mounted in the intake). This information can be found in the Chillgrille mounting instructions (at least for a Coleman-Mach a/c).
