  • water pump question

I purchased a 2018 grand design 297RSTS used last year.. love the unit but have a question on using the dry camping water pump. The nautilus system is pretty simple to use with the diagrams, but there are 2 water pump switches - as shown in the pictures. One down by the nautilus system and one inside the rv. Do they both have to be turned on in order to access dry camping water? The previous owner left the rv parked at a resort for 2 years with a water hook up and the nautilus system set to city water.. but he also left on the water pump located near the nautilus unit… I can’t access dry camping water and am wondering if he left the unit on and burned the motor out….any ideas?

Both switches do not have to be on. Either one will run the pump. It may be an inside fuse near the pump is blown.

As TedS has stated that only one switch needs to be on, they both can not be on at the same time, turning one on and then switching the other one will turn the pump off. If the pump was left on it may have burnt out the pump or the fuse, which is located behind the Nautilus panel near the pump. I can not guess why the switch would have been left on.

Hard to tell from the picture, if the light is on at the nautilus the pump should run. Next step would be to check for power and ground at the pump.

The switch may not have been “on”, even though it appeared to be in the “on” position. Think of this as you do an electric light switch in a long hall, with doors at each end. Often you will have two switches, one at either end of the hall. You can turn the lights on (or off) from either switch. They are not always in the ‘on” (up) position when they are on nor are they always in the “off” (down) position when they are off.

Our unit has a pilot light near each one of the switches and we can tell when the pump is energized (on, although not always running) by looking to see if the red light is on or off.
