gerri819 -- thanks for the follow-up! The pictures will make it much easier to explain to the next person that has this issue.

Just to be clear, there was NO need to go underneath ? The boot was replaced simply by removing toilet and working from above ?

The grommet being discussed is where the plumbing pipes enter the top of the tank. This is not accessible from the toilet flange at the inside floor or from under the trailer. You have to gain access to the top of the tank.

It would help if you'd quote the person you're asking the question to or tag them so they get a notice there's a question waiting for them (similar to the flag you got from this post from me).

You can also tell by looking at the individual's profile the last time they were here (some members don't log in often). The owner I think you're querying last logged in on the 3rd of Feb.

              gerri819 -- post 18 is for you.

howson Cate&Rob Would be nice to know what unit he has, can GD pull the model from the VIN in his profile? My GUESS (old fashioned been there done something similar) is the bathroom floor is directly on top of the frame and either he or the tech could unscrew the flange from the floor, pull the flange and stub out, then insert the new grommet down through the hole.

The OP has an Imagine TT, post #1. I am not sure what wudwork has. The TT is directly over the frame so pulling the toilet to access the grommet in the black tank is the feasible way to do it. On a fifth wheel the access is usually in the pass thru behind the false wall.

As per my signature, I have a GD 2600rb and soon a 2970RL, both GD Imagines. I experienced my toilet removal last fall when gadget that moves the semi-ball broke thus no easy way to close the "flapper". Direct venting into bath area was not pleasant.

Well after 2 months of smell free now it is back. Put an energy call back into the mobile tech. But everything was good as usual but yesterday our grey tank was full. My husband drained it about 1/3 and we went for dinner. Came home and opened door to the smell. Would opening the grey tank first and leaving black to drain later have caused some sort of fume backup into cabin. Smell coming from under sink cabinet and bottom drawers. Now when the tech fixed the last toilet boot he did seal up the hole under the pantry cabinets. I feel that’s why it coming out of different area now. Ugh. This should all be a closed system.

Is there evidence of a leak? If there's no leak, then I'd suspect the vent isn't doing it's job. Reading back through the thread, Tigger1 's post is very informative on the topic.

My .02: think of this as "all new" and start from the beginning with the troubleshooting. If could be a simple as a malfunctioning AAV. (But I suspect something's partially blocking the vent...)

We have a Solitude 2930RLR with a washer/dryer cabinet next to the bathroom wall and would notice the same smell every now and then. We do not have a washer/dryer installed in the cabinet. Finally decided to dig around in the basement and found the drain tube for the washer had a loose pipe plug installed and the tube into the black tank was loose. There is a "flapper-type" trap in the drain line also and since the line was always dry, my belief is that the flapper would leak vapors because is dried out and would open a bit (could never prove this but without a wet surface, the material would not really stick together to provide a seal in my thinking). I removed the flapper trap and put a new pipe plug with teflon tape and this cured the smell. I still to this day get "burping" of the toilet every so often even with the tank drained....still have not figured out what is causing this.....

I really appreciate all the posts. We were camping in Savannah this past weekend and temps in high 90’s. We were on our 3rd day of black tank and again smell of sewer gases in cabin. Not down the toilet but under sink and cabinet drawers. Frustrating best. Will have to check to see if vents are blocked. Our original problem led to the mobile tech replacing the av vent under sink but do these routinely go bad??? Seems like it’s on there thought and I can’t budge. Time for a second opinion I guess since we are back home in GA. Called G D because I was so frustrated but they are booked till FEB !

Yes, the Air Admittance Valve ("AAV") does go bad. There are quite a few threads on the topic on the forum.

                              Here's a good one: https://gdrvowners.com/forum/operati...mittance-valve

To read more, do a search (use Google or DuckDuckGo) with this search string: air admittance valve site:gdrvowners.com
