  • Tank Heaters 2020 GD Transcend 31rlk

We have a 2020 GD Transcend 31rlk and we would like to purchase tank heaters.

    1. Are tank heaters and tank warmers the same?
If not, What is the difference?

    2. How many do we need to purchase for the trailer?
And the original part number for each tank heater for the 2020 gd transcend 31rlk?

    3. Are there different levels of quality such as best, better and standard for this trailer?
If so, please provide a list with each part number for all categories (best, better standard ) so we can make a decision.

    Thanks, CM

    Hi CM.

Grand Design does not sell tank heaters for the Transcend, Imagine or Reflection lines. So I'm going to move your post to the plumbing section of the forum. Our members will be responding to your questions.

Tank Heaters/warmers are typically the same thing. They connect to a 12 volt source. You'll want heaters that have a built in thermostat that turn on when it gets to a certain temperature and turn off when it warms up. Installation is very simple. Connect the positive wire to a +12V wire, and the negative wire to ground. The hardest part will be exposing the tanks in the first place. If this is beyond your skill set, your dealer or a mobile technician can do it for you.

If you want to keep all the tanks from freezing, you'll need four heaters. You appear to have one fresh water tank, one black water tank, and two gray water tanks in your unit. I'm going to attach a link to some heaters you can purchase on Amazon. Most of them are peel and stick. You simply peel off the backing and stick it to your tank. Attach the wires to your 12volt wiring and they are ready to use. However, before purchasing, I'd expose the tanks and get measurements of the area you wish to stick the heaters to. There are different sizes available, and you want to cover the largest area possible.

Since GDRV doesn't sell tank heaters, your third question is not applicable.

Keep in mind that it takes sustained, pretty cold temperatures to freeze the liquid mass inside a fresh or waste water tank - especially if you keep the fresh tank full. We've weathered single digit lows and highs in the 20s with 40 MPH winds for more than five days without any of the tanks freezing (the water lines to the kitchen island were a different story...). Unless you plan to use the trailer in truly brutal conditions, it may be unnecessary trouble and expense.
