  • Adjusting Dometic WH-6GEA Water Heater Flame

Does anyone know how to adjust these Dometic water heaters? They don’t have the air adjustment on them that their predecessors did and I believe ours isn’t burning correctly. I’m told it should burn a nice blue and not yellow, and as you can see in the video linked below it’s blue right near the output but quite yellow in the burn tube. I think this may be why we keep going through thermal fuses every few trips. We checked the LP connection and verified it’s 11” of water column. We also checked the black and burn tubes for obstructions and didn’t find anything. Dometic and GD won’t help me with this due to liability of working the LP so I’m hoping someone here can lend some advice.

Is that 11" WC with the appliance running? Also note, there is another post about someone using a hose clamp to close off part of the inlet to adjust the airflow.

https://gdrvowners.com/forum/operati...elwh6gea/page2 post 17. User discretion is heavily advised.

Thanks! Not sure I’m comfortable making a mod like that knowing it’s specifically designed to not need that air adjustment, but interesting to hear I’m not the only one having this issue. Our tech checked the LP water column at the water heater, but not under load. Maybe I’ll ask him to check it under load when he comes back, but I’m guessing it’ll be fine just like the other post you linked to.

You could cover some of the air intake with your fingers to see if it makes any difference. I would not be comfortable in making any adjustments to a propane appliance neither.

I would also try to move the thermal fuse to the other end of that wire further away from the burn chamber.

shawncberg In the case I can understand Dometic and Grand Designs caution, but since you have a tech out working on it they should be able to get support with no issue. Did they reach out for further guidance?
Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise, we have nothing to gain should you choose to purchase a product or engage a service we discuss on this forum.

Dometic said they wouldn’t talk to anyone about it except one of their certified dealers, unfortunately.
