  • Loose spare tire

Found this after last trip. No issue last year and a half. Any recommendations?

There is a modification posted here, I think Cate&Rob did this.

Sometimes the lift cable is tangled and eventually jumps loose. Not usually a problem. Lower the spare and crank it back up smoothly. While you are at it . . . if the fill valve is up (as is often the case from the factory) turn the tire over so that you can check pressure and fill as required . . . without lowering the spare.

Edit: Per Country Campers . . . I did create "retainers" from a socket and a piece of pipe, to prevent the lift mechanism from unwinding. See picture.

DJens708 -- see post 26 in my fellow moderator's thread ( Cate&Rob ) about spare tires. Specifically look at the pin used to lock the mechanism so it can't unwind.

I used a beam clamp and pin to keep mine snug.
