Of course, because I live in Tx, I like the idea of my solar array keeping my batteries topped off during periods of non-use. But the long snow coverage concerns make sense for many. When I installed solar, I went ahead and installed a cut-off switch between panels and controller. Even if I can turn off the controller, it gives me more flexibility, ie. if I were to want to install a new controller, it's really easy.
