Yoda Keith, I'm late to the party, but... I went with the 20V Dewalt platform. I still carry a good sized 4-way and 3 (maybe 4?) foot cheater pipe. I know my wrench will remove anything I have, but it may not somebody elses. I have also been researching battery adapters that will let me use other tools with my Dewalt batteries.

I just bought an Ingersol Rand air impact because it had plenty of torque and is widely used by mechanics. Model 231-C. It’s sort of loud but does a great job.

I keep DW 3/8" impacts in both Polaris SXS's because I also carry DW chainsaws in both. The F150 has the Milwaukee mid torque. The F350 has the DW 1/2" that will do 1200 ft lbs of break away torque. It's fairly heavy but I can change a tire on a trailer nearly as fast as a NASCAR crew as I also use a trailer tire changing ramp. In the farm shop I have a lighter 3/8" Milwaukee and a mid torque. If I get something stubborn I go pull the big Dewalt out of the F350.
I went through many air impacts before finally going to battery powered. The air impacts either wore out or the moisture in the line froze them up.

[QUOTE=Jkwilson;n66180]I have a wrench that can easily generate 400lb-ft of torque, doesn’t need air or recharging, reaches all truck and trailer tires and fits easily under my back seat. I see no reason to over complicate such a simple

I thought I would update this thread. I got the Milwaukee 2767-22 M18 18V Lithium-Ion FUEL 1/2" High Torque Impact Wrench Kit with Case and Charger (there is a newer model out now 2967-22) and the Capri sockets as noted in posts #41 and post #43. Unfortunately the original unit had a bad battery, but Farm and Fleet replaced quickly. Second unit is flawless and a huge help The Capri sockets work well, especially the lug nut set.

I have found on setting 2 you can actually over tighten the lug nuts over 110lbs. I use setting 4 to remove, and to install I hand tighten the nut to be sure it threads, then use setting 1 to run tight following the crossing pattern. Then the final is with the torque wrench. The case and Capri lug nut box fits under my Retrax cover can up front. (normally wasted space)

Battery's retain thier charge well and do operate under 28 degrees. They will not charge at that temp though. To charge I need to bring them in the house and let them warm for 1/2 hour.

I am glad I got this set up - don't leave home without it
