For those that tow a 310GK with a 3/4 ton truck, can you stay within hitch weight, payload max, etc ok with careful loading? Seems like filling the fresh water tank and loading cargo in rear and outside on cargo carrier should keep you inside the limits. I really don’t need to hear “get a bigger truck”. Just curious about those towing with a GMC 2500, F-250, etc. thanks!

In my opinion it is possible. A lot of variables to consider, but I think the 310GK will be within the towing capacity, GCVWR capacity and probably rear axle capacity. The questions will probably be the payload capacity. For this you will have to refer to the specific truck that will be towing the 310GK.

For example, I have a 2020 F250. Towing capacity for 5th wheel is 19,100#, GCVWR is 30,000#, rear axle rating is 6,340# and payload is 3,166#. So, If I am careful with how I load my truck (probably just me and my wife and some snacks) and careful how I load the trailer, we could maybe squeak by.

A typical trip setup for us (with a Momentum 21G bumper pull) my truck will be about 500# under payload capacity. Tongue weight for my trailer is about 1300#. If I had close to the same setup with a 310GK, I would probably be about 500-700# over payload capacity, but within all other capacities.

In reality my truck has the same engine, transmission and rear axle/rear suspension setup as an F350 SRW, but the GVWR has been decreased to stay with the 3/4 ton rating. If I'm over a few hundred pounds the truck is not likely to break, I'm not likely to feel a difference. But, technically, I'd be over capacity.

In the end it's up to you and what you are comfortable with.

Results from a CAT scale while loaded for travel will help you in determining where you are with respect to the SAE certified limits of your truck.

There are many different opinions on these forums as to what you can and should tow with your tow vehicle. There are people that quote the manufacturers pin weight when making cases to use a specific truck only to find that in most cases...those pin weights are incorrect once we, as owners, load them after purchase. I would recommend that you check out the payload sticker on your door jamb and then weigh your specific camper when loaded to see what the numbers are.

GM now has distinct towing and hardware differences between their 2020-current 2500 and 3500 SRW trucks. Payload numbers are important, and we should all try our best to get the right TV for the loads we intend to pull or haul. I tell people all the time, as a long-time GM mechanic, car restorer, and overall MacGyver type......just because you "can" do something doesn't mean you "should"!

          Dee,

Not sure what model year truck you have but the GM trailering guide as compared to those door stickers on your truck would be helpful. Remember the pin weight as advertised on the 310GK will be unloaded and as delivered. The pin weight limits will be a percentage of the trailers gross weight. So your looking at the pin weight percentage of the GVW when empty at 12100 lbs versus a fully loaded trailer at 15000lbs. Add the weight of the hitch as well.

GM will list the recommended maximum payload limits as percentages of the trailers GVW based on a fifth wheel or a travel trailer. You can look this up while empty and go from there. Loading everything in the back of the trailer could adversely affect handling so keep this in mind.

Here is a link to an example GM trailering guide.

Lacking a loaded weight on the trailer and the data on the trailering sticker in the door of the truck its strictly anecdotal
Although you said you didnt want to hear "get a bigger truck" I think IF you can get the numbers to work it will be very close with no margin and my suspicion is that the truck will fall short numbers wise.
I tow a trailer thats around 1200 lbs lighter overall weight and 150 lbs less pin weight than yours with a 3500HD and when fully loaded I am within around 10-15% of cargo capacity, GCWR and rear axle rating. This is with all the info from the truck and the trailer and my cargo but no water in the tanks.

Dee Can you post a picture of the stickers in the drivers side door opening of your GMC?

If there is no one who tows a Solitude 310GK with a 3/4 ton truck that is willing to give some information to the OP then we can leave this thread as it is.
