  • New to Me Ford 2019

So due to some circumstances beyond my control, I ended up with a Used 2019 Ford 150 Platinum 4WD SuperCrew with a 5.5' Box. 3.5L V6 ECOBOOST. It's got about 70k

I really like the truck, but I've been driving Toyota's for most of my life. I've never followed Ford's, and don't know a thing about them.

Is there anything to be aware of / keep an eye out for with a 2019 Ecoboost?

    Anyone have a favorite accessory?

I need an organizer to go under my rear seat, anyone have a favorite one of these? The Tundra's have these built in. I like to keep my "normal" hitch and small tools in there.

Suggestions on carrying 4 bikes? Normally I put them in the back of my 6.5' box that my Tundra has, but I don't think they are going to fit in the 5.5 box, especially since it has a roll-n-lock tonneau cover installed. Leaves me something like 4.5 feet in the box.

I know most of the usual suspects around here (Howson, Cate&Rob, Neil, etc )are all driving F350's, so they have different animals. Although Cate&Rob mentioned at one point he had a F150.

Also, anyone know where I can get an exact model breakdown based off the VIN?
    Mike

I just switched from a 2016 F150 with the Ecoboost to an F250 6.7 diesel. My problem with the 3.5 EB was engine temp. Whenever towing, I struggled to keep the temperature down. So that's what I would pay attention to. I've talked with others and I may have had a unique situation, but I also thinks it's not an uncommon problem. I always use tow/haul mode and would limit the transmission to 5th (or even 4th) gear. I'd even try to drive slower/faster to keep the RPMs higher and not let the turbos kick in, but in the end, I was sick of stressing over it on my drive days, so upgraded to eh 6.7 diesel.

I have a rolling tonneau cover, but I'm not sure what yours is exactly, so not sure if this will work for you... Here's a shot of my rack that uses DeeZee hex t-slot side rails along with my ancient set of Yakima components to be able to carry 4 bikes above the bed.

Consider a Rockstar mudflap to minimize the chance of debris getting flung back at the Imagine. Awesome accessory IMHO. https://www.agricover.com/mud-flaps and https://gdrvowners.com/towing-and-hi...ford-f-350-drw (Yes, they make one that fits an F-150.)

Also consider getting familiar with ForScan. You'll need an OBD II reader, preferably one listed as fully ForScan compatible. Tons of info here: https://forscan.org and https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...gF1wxIqxY/edit (the latter is has links to a spreadsheet with all the '19 codes).

        Hi Mike,

I hauled a 10,000 lb 5th wheel for many years and many thousands of miles with an Ecoboost F150. That engine is a towing powerhouse . . . but, the rest of the truck comes in many different varieties. I had the HDPP (Heavy Duty Payload Package) version which added a lot of payload capacity. As I have commented previously on this forum . . . the most surprising thing about stepping up to a 6.7L Diesel is how well the Ecoboost did (in retrospect) towing the same trailer.

The first step is to determine how much payload you have to work with. This is on the yellow “tire info” label on the driver's door frame. The line “passengers and cargo must never exceed ??? lbs” is the payload specific to this truck. With the 5.5 ft box, I would expect this number to be less than 1500 lbs. Staying within this limitation will be your biggest challenge.

The Payload numbers were the primary deciding factor on this truck. The label lists it as 1578, with a weight reduction sticker of 1lbs. Coming out of a Tundra with 1398, this is an improvement.

I'm not asking about payload numbers, or GVWR, or any of the other 4 letter acronyms.

It's more about Ford trucks in general, and the 2019's specifically.

For example, Tim gave some amazing advice (I'm researching t-slot rack options right now, since my rolling tonneau cover supports those.) However, the gearing information he had doesn't apply to the 2019's, since they have a 10 speed transmission. But I will keep an eye on the transmission / engine temp. (I usually do anyways)

This just went on my fathers day list.

Just had the truck beep at me because I got out with the engine running. Very annoying. My campsite neighbors will love that when I'm hitching / unhitching the truck.
All the foreign vehicles just "chirp", and it's very quiet. Loud enough to hear it when your next to the vehicle, but not loud enough to bother anyone. Ford seems to think the whole campground needs to know you left your truck running (or locked)

              Hey Mike

Unfortunately I found out about an F150 issue at my last oil change that you and others may or may not be aware of. As I was picking up my truck from my last oil change, they told me they would call when my parts were in. Since I hadn't ordered any parts I was a little perplexed and naturally inquired about what she was talking about. She told me they ordered me a new left hand side valve cover under warranty. Searching for this on the interwebs I discovered there is a fairly common issue with the EcoBoost engine and cracked valve covers, around the fill port, that leaks oil. It seems to be a slow leak for myself, I have never seen oil on the ground and when I check the level its good. But anyways, maybe worthwhile for your to check out your cover and see if it's leaking or not.

I have been happy with my F150 with the 3.5 EB, supercrew, max tow Pkg.. This engine is a beast, no issues pulling my 265BH through the hills in Tennessee. I have the 10 spd transmission and configured the gauges to show transmission temp and never had any deviations towing from Ohio to Texas and back. The only issue I’ve had is a bit of porpoising, but that was partly due to the WDH being set too light by the dealer. Improved after resetting, but I still added Roadmaster Active Suspension to eliminate squats and eliminate porpoising. Be sure to set the dial to tow/haul, it helps a lot. I haven’t tried it yet, but I can lock out 9th and 10th gears which delays the turbos kicking in for better gas mileage and cooler turbos. I get about 7.5-8.5 mpg towing the 265BH, this is my daily driver and I get about 21 mpg around town. I do change oil promptly at 5k miles.

On my 2020 F350, I found that if I leave the key fob inside it doesn't honk at you.

But...easy for someone to jump in and drive off with your truck. I've turned off the "beep" feature (using ForScan) and also enabled Police mode. I can leave the truck running and take the key with me--truck will not shift out of Park. Again, all enabled via Forscan.

That feature was worth the price of the cable for Forscan in my opinion!! I am certain Ford times the horn honk to happen as soon I was in front of the truck, scared me and made me jump several times before I disabled it!!

I have left my FOB in my center console since the day I bought the truck. One of the things I love about Ford is the door keypad and this still works with the FOB inside. They're easy enough to hotwire, if someone goes to the trouble of breaking a window or jimmying the lock (piece of cake to do on these) then they're not going to need the key to start it anyway lol.

Thanks for this. Cost me a bit of money, and a lot of haggling on Facebook Marketplace, but I have 3 of the 4 bike rakes, and the bars necessary to do this now. (Picture is of the biggest bike, and littlest bike to test fitment)

The 4th bike rack I should have walked away from (was a different model, thought it would fit, but it doesn't). Trying to decide if it's worth buying the parts to make it fit, or trying to resell it again on Facebook (Hey I bought it, maybe someone else will)

I went with Yakima Front Loadloaders for the rack I do like, that way I don't have to pull the front wheel off. (We have cheap bikes, so they don't have removable front wheels, and where do you put the wheels when travelling anyways?

Yeah, I don't love having to take the wheels off and storing them... but they slide under the cover well enough and we've not run into issues storing that way.

Thanks howson for the tip on ForScan. Well worth the $60 for adapter cable. The beep when I got out was getting to me, plus now the mirrors fold up when I lock the truck.

Does anyone have a suggestion on getting what packages the truck was built with looked up? The best I've found is some website that is selling replica Dealer Window Tags, but he is more targeted at "show" vehicles. (They come in a wooden frame) I just want to know what the truck was built with.
