Ever wonder what the pipe thread designation mean and what is compatible? I was researching fittings and had to look up what FIP meant - IE would it fit NPT? Yep it does.

Here is a good source to determine what is comparable with what.

    https://www.petersenproducts.com/pip...ing-standards_

    Hope this helps.

      OK an update

I got all my parts ordered to go with my Air Lift 4 gallon 200 psi Tank https://www.lmperformance.com/113762...-polished.html This was the best price I could find. I did initially find the price cheaper here https://stage-motorsports.com but they canceled my order after I made it and raised thier price over $50.

I found a great place for fittings https://www.newmaticsinc.com and got 10% off of everything with free shipping and no tax. You need to ask for a code. I got excellent customer service for them too. Sandy (owner) actually check with me on the parts I ordered and where they would go to make sure what I was doing would work. He made a few cost saving suggestions too. I should have everything in about 4 days. The order I made today will ship today. I decided to go with the push to connect fittings after I read and learned about using DOT approved stuff. I also went with 1/2" tubing to get better air flow. Compressor is a Viair 485C

Jlawles2 Joseph I called around locally for the traditional compression fittings and was told the PTC ones were good if I stayed with DOT certified ones and used matching DOT tubing. I found out that most of the truck repair paces have switched over to PTC fittings. I also checked with a few 4x4 shops and got the same answer. Besides 1/2" compression fittings are hard to find.

I plan a bulkhead fitting beside the license plate I am fabricating up some mounting brackets (no frame drilling) for the horns and found U-Bolts here uboltstore.com

      Now the wait for everything

Cost. It actually came out cheaper than getting the package (compressor /Tank combo) Especially if you factor in the bigger hose, larger tank and just getting what was needed.

Ill do a full write up with pictures when completed.

See the picture in post #1. It will be above and in front of the spare tire, bolted to that cross member. The compressor hopefully will fit too. Air horns will be down the passenger sidem right under Carol.

Tank is being replaced by seller.

Let me know how that install goes....and how your wife like the air horns right under her.

How are you going to shield the tank from the heat of the exhaust?

As for shielding, it's pretty far away and covered by the spare. The photo is an optical illusion making you think the exhaust is closer than it is. Ill get a few better pictures when I do the install.

The first of 4 packages I have coming. This one has all the tank fittings, 485C Viair compressor and mounting bracket that should work perfectly, 1/2" DOT air line and adapter fitting for my 1/2" air valve and running a line to the bulkhead. I am waiting on U bolts, the replacement air tank and a Amazon order with the air valve and a few other items. I will be using 8 awg wire from the #6 up fitter switch.

No pictures today. Been fabricating mounting brackets for the compressor and tank. Speaking of the tank the new one arrived, It was padded in the box and warped in foam. - perfect condition So far I think I have found a mounting place for everything. U-Bolts also arrived so I can now mount the horns. Ill get a few pictures today. Now off to HD for a couple of brackets and TS for some mounting bolts, etc.

Genius here . I am such a puts. I got the compressor mount made up, drilled an tapped for the bolts. I made it so it is removable. Then went on to adding the tank fittings and getting the tank in place IT WONT FIT!!!!!!! The tank by itself fits beautifully, but add the fittings and it wont. This genius here when measuring forgot to add the fitting dimensions. Amy one need a slightly dented 4 gallon aluminum 200 psi Tank? Don't ask about the dent

So I ordered the cheapest steel tank I could find that will give me enough room. The weather this coming week will not be very nice (cold) but I can move forward and get the horns installed and run some wiring. I need to find the horn wire. I think the horn is behind the grill but not sure how the wiring runs from it. I want to use that to fire a relay the operates the air valve. Then on to up fitter switch 6 and get it connected to the compressor.

So Have a laugh on me and learn from my expensive mistake.

Bummer, Keith. Most of us have "been there, done that" at some point in our RV modification journey. One of my favorite authors (John Maxwell) has an entire book with the title "Failing Forward". (In essence, stretch yourself by making the attempt and give yourself permission to make mistakes. Learn from the goof and press on. As you know since you're a regular here, I'm really good at making mistakes. )

                              4 Gallon Aluminum Air Tank – Polished – 12955

                              Dimensions: 30″ L x 6″ H x 7.5″ H

Its the length that gets into one of the passenger shock mount. Width and height wise was fine I think the critical dimension for alll the fittings and having access is 24" long and 8.5 wide or high

I have this one ordered from another place https://www.amazon.com/Vixen-Air-Gal...a-784541990623

I plan to mount it sideways using the legs against the spare tire frame posted befor..

@ Yoda . . . not meaning to complication to this plan . . . but, have you gone looking for the upfitter switch wiring yet? They are not where it shows in the owners manual. Find the really short harness coming off the upfitter switch relay box. If you need to come into the passenger compartment, one end of that harness is buried behind the battery. The inside end is way up behind the side trim in the passenger footwell.
