  • 2022 Ram 2500 6.4L v8 Hemi extended fuel tank options.

So when towing the camper I can only go about 180-200 miles before I have to fill up. I see lots of extended Diesel gas tanks, But nothing for regular gas. I’m looking for something to either replace my current gas tank or an extended gas tank in the bed of my truck the ads about 15 to 30 gallons of gas. Looking for something I don’t have to pull over and pump the gas from the auxiliary tank.

any options that don’t require me to pull over and add gas?
please don’t suggest switching to a diesel unless you are sending me the money, lol.

Deveasey With my old truck having a 8.1L gas engine, I could not pass a gas station when pulling my camper. The fuel disappeared so quickly I was nervous to let the tank get below 1/2. I took a look at some in-bed auxiliary fuel tanks and they do not specify the fuel type. It is my belief they work on either. Check out the link below.

Edit: After looking at this a little closer, it does specify diesel as the intended fuel.

Carrying extra gas in the bed is very limited by DOT, so a bigger tank on the truck is probably your best option.

What I did was probably not the best option, and probably skirted quite a few laws, but being Diesel also helps.

I placed an 18 gallon topside diesel compatible boat tank in the tool box of my truck with a siphon between it and the tank. As the diesel tank is suction vented and not subject to some of the same self test emissions of other vehicles, it would not trip the check engine light. Gasoline systems are much more finicky about sealing and checking the seal of the tank. Remove the fuel cap and see if it trips the check engine light in under 100 miles or 10 key cycles or less.

You might be able to get away with something similar, but you will need to find a filler neck adapter and then find some way to tie the tank vents together so the emissions system stays "happy". (https://www.amazon.com/Auxiliary-Ins...ce305c66f74f7b)

BTW stopping at the 150 - 200 mile mark to transfer fuel is not a bad thing. I have always had more range than that, but rarely went farther without stopping to check the hub and tire temps. With the flow rate of some of the pumps on the market today, you could transfer 30 gallons in under 5 minutes (15-20 GPM is not uncommon).

x2 on John's advice. I looked into a bed mounted gasoline tank when I was running a gasoline truck and did not find any suppliers certified to do this. There are evaporative emissions to handle . . . not to mention the potential for a static spark. The only thing that might work would be a larger single tank replacing the OE tank.

Just a friendly reminder to check your weights before deciding to add 90 to 180 lbs of cargo to your truck.

I can’t find any options for gasoline tanks. Well options that are legal of course.

Deveasey Transfer flow is actually looking into this, hopefully they follow thru. Enough Hemi owners submitted requests…….

In the meantime, for range anxiety I have a Titan Sidekick in the bed

I have encountered this issue and ended up at the same conclusion. Only real ‘fix’ I’ve found is to plan your route and make sure there are gas stations within the required max distance. Plus, my wife would rather stop and stretch her legs after 3-4 hours.

If I’m not confident in gas access, I carry a three gallon gas can to use if I have to take gas to the truck. Years ago, I saw someone getting fuel for their Class A at a tiny little station. They parked on the shoulder and ferried enough gas from the station to enable them to confidently head out for a truck stop 20 miles further. Worst case, drop the trailer in a large parking lot and take the truck for gas. Both options are less than ideal.

If I have time, I plan my stops by using google or memory from previous trips. I pick large stations with traffic lights or right turns when leaving. I list them by miles from my departure point that day. The list will say something like:

                    183 miles exit 63. Pilot with Wendy’s

Easy to set a trip odometer in the morning and then easily pick a stop on the road and know how far to the next one in case the place is packed. If I stop at one and it’s a mess, I make a note for next time.

if you have a long bed , ram has had a 50 gallon gas tank as an option the last few years , might want to look into that. for me , i carry an extra 5 gallons in a metal gas can but as funds allow i am going to purchase a titan side kick mounted in the bed of my truck . if someone figures out how to retrofit the 50 gallon tank onto my 2014 i would do that but so far i do not think anyone has done that , only on 2020 on newer long beds.
