  • 5th Wheel Tongue Weight

Would anyone know how much weight I could hang off of the 5th wheel tongue on my 2017 GD Momentum 327M? I have seen people lift their hitches from the bed of their trucks with the 5ht wheel tongue and leave them hanging off the tongue... I would assume the amount of weight the tongue endures during towing is quite high but have wondered if leaving the 5th wheel hitch attached to the tongue for storage is bad for the Trailer in any way. Appreciate any feedback and responses!

I would not think that hanging the hitch from the pin box would hurt it. The towing forces applied to the pin box would far out weigh hanging a hitch on it.

I've known several people who have stored their FW hitches on the pin over long periods of time with no detrimental effects.

Thanks guys for the quick reply! I have had my GD for about a month now and hope to learn much from everyone here and provide my own experiences/comments soon.

        Thanks

This came from Apr, 2015 from the original forum. Many of the oldtimers here will remember Janice. And actually I never did leave it dangling while in storage.

I started a thread on this topic, but the final word has to come from Grand Design, Lippert and/or TrailAir.

          Hi Tom (@TNFSolitude),

As long as it is properly latched, there is no problem leaving it attached.

          Best regards,
