2018 RAM 3500 LB SRW with OEM rear air bag auto level system: How do I use the auto level system while hooking up a 5th wheel? Do I hit the button before or after hooking up?

I had a 2016 DRW with auto level and I never did anything. I just hooked up and when the truck took the weight, the system kicked in. Loved that system. I have airbags on my 19 F350 DRW and while they are good, its just not the same.Robert & Cat

I was leaning towards leaving it alone and seeing how it goes. This truck is an upgrade for us and the hitch isn't even installed yet. So I'm trying to figure out how this system fits in to the hook up procedure. I did find a you tube video that shows the rear end of the truck dropping about an inch when the button is pressed but that's not really something I need. Besides when I tried it nothing happened. According to something else I found the 3500 won't drop unless there's already a load on.
When you say "the system kicked in" does that mean it raised up after you hooked up? So leave the button alone?

So I was researching your question by watching YouTube videos. I couldn't find a definitive answer to your question.

Yes, with mine, once I hooked up, and the truck started taking the weight of the trailer, the compressor automatically kicked in. You can hear it when it does, mine was right behind the cab on the passenger side as I recall. Once the system leveled out, the compressor would kick off. It wasn't always fast, some times it wouldn't start until I was completely hooked up and ready to go, so give it time if you don't hear it right away. I never messed with the switch in the cab.
