  • Maiden Voyage - Lesson Learned

Took the new rig out for a shakedown cruise for the weekend...Upon arrival at Crystal Mountain Ski Resort (they are still open for skiing this weekend!), was having a little difficulty unhitching...Got to looking a little closer and realized things just didn't look "quite right". The hitch plate was sitting cattywompus (technical term). So I started looking a little closer. The master pin was about 1/3 of the way backed out - because the cotter pin holding it in place wasn't installed.

Adding this item to my "Hookup Checklist".

I have a feeling this could have been catastrophic. Think I might need a drink now.

Other than that issue, so far so good on the maiden voyage. Towing was breeze. Set up was uneventful. Looking forward to learning more about this rig this weekend.

Yikes--glad that master pin didn't back out all the way.

Although I take full responsibility for my oversight, I think I'm going to add this one to the list for feedback for the dealer. I'm 99% sure this lock pin was overlooked during the initial hitch install (I found the lock pin all the way forward in the truck box). Which means it was not locked in when I brought it home from the dealer 3 weeks ago.

Again, "shame on me". But I can guarantee I won't overlook it again!!
